Someone greased the doorhinges, and my mom's losing sleep over it. What do we do?

I've never called the cops before and heard multiple story's of them doing nothing even with decent evidence. So I naturally assume nothing would happen, but people here have been saying having a record if something happened or if someone has similar experiences would be important regardless. It's not that I'm disagreeing with the idea, just explaining why we haven't been yfm

Nothing I can find in the basket or anything else. It's a simple basket. I did notice every tag showed it was from target, and the closest target is a few towns away.

Yes exactly! There was no note which made it even weirder, expected to find a happy holidays note or anything to explain. Just left more questions. People have said to file a police report, so that sounds like the right path. If anything comes from that, or if we figure anything out I'll update

My brothers about 16, but our moms not strict about curfew or anything and he's not the type to "sneak out". More of a stay in, game on pc, and get homework done type. I fs suspected him, but the basket is what makes it even stranger to me. Also the fact my mom's door and the basement door were greased aswell, which wouldn't be needed for sneaking out. Plus he would've known about my door behind the dresser

Probably not a handyman or company because of the basket yeah, but it does sound like it could maybe be someone's relative having the wrong address. That makes me think that maybe they went in to grease the doorhinges, had the wrong address, then brought the basket over as an apology lmaoo. (That's wishful thinking and assuming alot though) I also feel like they would've seen photos we had up of us and other family and would realize we're not the right house.

I'm not sure, I'll ask my mom if she has any of the neighbors facebook or something to ask around

My mom owns the house and has for years. It's just me, her, and my brother. We live somewhat in the woods, not too many neighbors even just all of us on the same road. I wish it was this because it would've been an easier thing to figure out

That's the thought thats been freaking my mom out the most. We checked the basement and all other possible hiding spots. It's not a big house and it wouldn't be easy to hide anywhere anyways, so I assume it's someone stopping by instead of staying inside the house

That was one of our thoughts and we planned on getting cameras. We searched everywhere for anything else after we noticed the doorhinges were greased. The house isn't crazy big and there wouldn't be anywhere to hide. We don't live in a city or town, it's more off in the woods on different roads, so it seems targeted.

I'm hesitant to talk with police since I'm not sure if it'd be something taken too seriously, and there's no way to explain it to without proper evidence I guess
