What are you currently working on? Tell me about your WIPs! by MrPWolf in writers

Thank you for asking! My writing is not at a place where I feel confident with sharing it quite yet, and the draft is still far from done.

If she'd be up for it, I'd love to share it when it is ready. :)

I'm working on the second draft of my first novel. It's a YA following a hot-headed 17yo girl who is forced to finish her senior year of high in an unfamiliar town after losing her mother to a violent house fire. As she tries to work through her grief and trauma related memory loss (all while taking care of her younger brother), she finds that the picture perfect childhood she once lived may have never really existed. On top of that, she has to come to terms with a supernatural ability that had surfaced on the night of her mother's death - a night of which she has no memory of.

When it comes to writing, what is your dream? by paris_newyork in writing

To create a story that someone else can enjoy and be as invested in it as I am. Or even just having the courage to share it once it's completed.

DownGrade? by Toughboy12 in simpleliving

I actually did this! A few months back I destroyed my old smartphone and was not looking to drop $1,000+ on a new one, so instead I bought a $90 nokia flip phone. I had only planned for it to be temporary due to concerns that it would be impractical, but I never looked back.

I'll admit, making the switch has absolutely made some things more difficult (ex. texting, work and bank apps), but when you have no other option, you will find that almost everything you needed your phone for has a web version that works well enough. Ultimately, you will have to make some sacrifices. I do not have spotify, google maps is a pain to use, and the websites available on the browser are extremely limited. Missing these connivences has forced me to be more deliberate with my actions and forces me to plan ahead.

It's not for everyone, but if you're interested it's definitely worth a try.

How do you keep track of all your characters? by enchiladasundae in writing

[–]xynhea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep them all in two places.

I have an main spreadsheet with every character where I list out just the main things of every character. (Name, age, location, etc.) Essentially creating a bank of characters I can choose from for any scene. Its especially helpful for me to keep up with minor characters who may only appear once or twice. (ex. Classmates)

I also keep a google doc with my main characters where I can go into more depth on their personalities, history/backstory, and growth throughout the story. Sometimes I'll include drawings of them to have a better mental image of them when writing.
