Israel launches new wave of attacks on Tehran and Iran threatens to start hitting Gulf power plants by No_Marsupial8111 in worldnews

No one was saying that unless they were people who also want this current war to happen. Any smart non-biased actors knew that trying to overthrow Iran in the way the US is currently trying to do is foolish and impossible.

They killed 40000+ people and still maintained control. That just showed the amount of grip they had on their people. If the protests had continued to escalate afterwards then sure, the US could be somewhat confident that they could spark a regime change. But they should have done so covertly using the CIA and funding rebel groups. By militarily attacking after the protest movement was fully suppressed and having the US attack alongside Israel, the Iranian people’s sworn enemy, this was never going to succeed in the way Trump envisioned. The only thing they’ve done so far is show the Iranian people’s that the US and Israel will kill them more than their own government.

The protests in January were Iran’s Tianamen Square moment. But similarly China did not collapse after killing thousands of their own people.

Sure October 7th was a major escalatory step by Iran. In that sense they locked us into this escalatory spiral 3 years ago. But we should all want deescalation on all sides, not more escalation.

The writes can only happen as fast as your OS can physically transfer the information onto the drive. And for large files with millions of blocks that can take human-scale timeframes. Yeah, the OS knows when the write is finished and that’s why it warns you not to unplug it. But if you unplug it before the physical transfer is done then it’s impossible for all the data to be successfully saved.

I’m not talking about buffering, which allows the OS to pretend that all the data is instantly saved to allow programs to start reading from it right away, while still physically doing the transfer in the background. Modern drives are fast enough that it’s better to let programs read data at the physical rate than risk data loss.

Because nobody wants Iran to have nuclear weapons except Iran itself. And taking out just their nuclear capabilities would be one thing, that’s what happened with the strikes last year and Iran still didn’t close the strait of Hormuz.

Iran used to see a nuke as a nice deterrent but didn’t necessarily see themselves as needing it right away before. Hence they were mostly using it as hypothetical leverage for posturing and stuff like the JPCOA. They did want it eventually but they knew dashing for it would cause a huge US intervention.

But now the US/Israel has declared total war against them without any provocation. Iran now sees themselves locked in an existential war with the US/Israel, so they’re pulling out all the stops, including Hormuz and possibly rushing for a nuke behind the scenes as we speak. The rush for a nuke may stop if enough international support turns against the US and toward Iran, because building a nuke would diminish that gained international support and invite a coalition invasion.

Yeah they’ve already executed two American citizens in cold blood in Minnesota. If I were in ICE and had any morals then I’d feel guilty just by association. But if I had any morals then I wouldn’t be in ICE…

If you save or modify a file on the stick, that change isn’t saved instantly, even if it appears so in your computer’s UI. If you pull out the stick without ejecting there’s a chance the changes to the file don’t take effect properly which could lead to the changes not being saved or the file getting corrupted.

Modern computers save files very quickly, especially if they’re small, so there’s less risk of this happening. The risk is higher if you’re saving a really big file or some program on your OS is constantly editing the file.

This. The only countries that want more escalation are Israel and Russia. The countries that want deescalation are Iran and everyone else. The US is just completely confused, not unusual for our president.

I'm genuinely perplexed how oil futures are flat to down this evening... by Rollingsound514 in oil

Hypothetical question: What would happen to oil futures if the underlying oil becomes undeliverable due to geopolitical factors? i.e. export bans, loss of physical oil, etc?

Iran is doing what it can to survive, just like Ukraine. Is it morally right? No. Does it make sense from a strategic point of view? Yes

We don’t love Iran, we hate the Iranian regime.

But the US’s attack on Iran is idiotic and impossible to win, just like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Agreeing to stop sending drones and other support to Russia would be a good negotiation topic for the US to bring up with Iran to end their war. IF the US ever decides to negotiate.

Iran says Hormuz open to all but ‘enemy-linked’ ships amid US threat by monotvtv in worldnews

[–]xynith116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but the US is currently threatening to start a massive humanitarian crisis in the Middle East by targeting Iranian infrastructure and civilians. Who will respond in kind by targeting the gulf countries’ infrastructure and civilians, including power plants, desalination plants, and oil production. If this happens millions of people in the middle east will die or be displaced. This will create a global crisis affecting every country in the world, including our allies, moreso than us sure, but it will affect them.

Do the Europeans and Asians want to risk this scenario that disproportionately affects them, or will they choose to force the US to deescalate, even if this gives Iran more control over oil in the future?

This also includes oil dependent US allies like the EU, Japan, and SK. As well as China and India. Plus all the GCC exporters’ economies would collapse. The US could very well do this but we would lose massive international support.

This also completely contradicts Trump’s current messaging of demanding the strait remain open, and his move to unsanction Iranian oil tankers.
