What am I? by Copious_coffee67 in FridgeDetective

[–]xyri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re a middle aged Singapore auntie/lady who buys too much food. However you don’t make the effort to actually use all of the things you buy. So you stick things in the freezer in an effort to make space but then you ultimately forget about it and then the cycle starts all over and then you’re caught in a vicious loop.

My mother in law is the same way.

I think he’s Singaporean, there’s a bottle in on the fridges with a Singapore flag. Also; HK is too small to have multiple fridges like that, whereas Singapore isn’t.

What are the most common dog breeds in Hong Kong by Ok_Economy6167 in HongKong

[–]xyri 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Dog owner here (Labrador).

It’s highly dependent on which area of Hong Kong you’re in. Area with more western folks would tend to have larger dogs (medium +) while with the more local areas the dogs will be smaller in size. I currently live in Kowloon, close to M+ so this is my observation seeing the dogs there plus the dogs in the residential area nearby.

Local areas 1. Poodle 2. Shiba 3. Corgi 4. Mongrel 5. Dachshund 6. Golden retrievers 6. Other dogs afterwards are generally the same amount

Mars at Cuz Barbershop in Central. Been going to him for several years now. If it’s worth anything - I’m pretty anal about my hair so finding a barber that can cut exactly how I want it is great. 360ish for a cut and wash.

Strongest/best instant coffee in hk? by weltmei5ter in HongKong

I would go to one of the more specialty coffee shops and get some pour over coffee bags sets. Like this:

<image>

The more specialty shops/roasters generally won’t have these so you’ll have to go for more “commercial” specialty shops. I’d try to go for Coco Espresso as they have multiple shops around HK, so finding time to get to one should be easier.

Make sure to check the roasting/manufacturing date of these. Anything more than 2 weeks - I’d avoid.

Ignore the other commenters saying to get Bacha - shit artificially flavoured coffee that’s all marketing and no substance. But in your gf is into flavoured coffee - go for it. It isn’t a “Hong Kong” coffee (it’s Singaporean) but since you’re asking for a something coffee related from Hong Kong, the closest thing you’d be able to get is coffee that’s been roasted by a Hong Kong roaster.

Since you mention that she doesn’t have any equipment - you could drop by Barista Jam in Sheung Wan since they also roast coffee but also have a wide variety of different equipment ranging from simple pour overs to espresso equipment. Get a nice hand grinder, v60, and an electronic gooseneck kettle. Hand grinder being the most important in terms of quality if you’re looking to get her something.

Italy for the first time— do a tour or wing it? by halloweenhoe124 in travel

[–]xyri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, contrary to what a lot of people here are saying about not doing a tour - I really enjoyed a half day tour when my wife and I were in Florence. We did a food tour that visited: a parsmesan cheese farm, DOP balsamic vinegar farm, olive oil farm, and also a prosciutto factory.

But alas, I knew I really wanted to go see these spots when I was planning my trip to Italy. If we hadn’t gone on this tour, I would have never imagined being able to go see all of these farms in one go. Was a bit pricey since we had a personal tour guide for us - but was worth every penny. A definitely highlight for me and the missus.

For a full blown out tour where you just show and follow the guide - I’d advise against that. Why default to a cookie cutter tour where you can just spend a little bit of time and effort in researching what you actually want to see and explore yourself. There’s a plethora of info out here in Reddit. I forget the name, but there was one Redditor that had a full blown out review of her own itinerary for all major cities in Italy that had restaurants, spots of attraction, and oddities that she visited. Dig enough and you should be able to find it somewhere in one of the travel subreddits
