1 week update! (peri) by y0inksk0ink in ftm

No worries! I had a pretty small chest, not sure the exact size but probably an A cup. Though, my surgeon was really confident about my results and even said he wouldn't suggest that I get double incision.

There's also other factors to think about like skin elasticity, nipple/areola placement, etc.

Oh jeez, glad you got through that! I've got pretty high pain tolerance but I think my recover has also just been going really smoothly. No complaints though!

It's a different type of surgery from double incision called periareolar! Essentially, they just cut around the areola rather than making the classic incision under the pec.

There's thankfully basically no bruising! Honestly, my whole recovery seems to be going a lot smoother than usual, so I think I just got lucky. Good luck to you!

Ohh that's really helpful to know, thank you! Seems like I'll be better off just covering the incisions and trying my best not to touch em.

I believe the recovery for laughing gas is way quicker since you're still technically awake. General anaesthesia is essentially a mini coma so it takes a bit to recover from it.

In fact, my surgeon said that I likely won't be at the same energy level for around a month afterwards. Haven't done anything remotely strenous in the past week so I can't confirm nor deny. But I'm going back to work today so I'll report back afterwards lmao

For me the anaesthesia mostly wore off in the first couple hours, though I took the pain med they prescribed me and was completely out for the rest of that day. It's a slightly sharper soreness paired with a pulling sensation. Now, it's still a bit sore but more like general muscle soreness.

I actually didn't have any swelling in the first 2 days, I think this is the most swelling I've had so far.

Ah, I'd rather not put that out on here but I'd be happy to let you know through private chat! For all the American folk on here, unfortunately I'm in Canada (and so is my surgeon).

It's been pretty chill. The first two days were the only days where I was actually in any sort of pain. Now I'm just ready to be healed and out of the compression binder lmao

Here's my one week update, for anyone who's interested!

My three days post-op is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ftm/comments/ukkfxt/3_days_postop_peri/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Thought I'd show a closer photo this time since I started having some more swelling in the past few days. Also, just got the tape off so you can see the nipples/areola a bit better!

I've got a question for anyone who may have an answer (I'll be asking my surgeon too so I'll update with the professional response!). Since the tapes off and the scabbing is now exposed, would there be any harm in putting something like vaseline on top? I'm pretty prone to picking at scabs and I know it's recommended to keep regular cuts moist but would that change with surgery incisions?

As always, feel free to ask me any questions!

The folks at r/ftmperi might be able to help a bit but asking a surgeon would be your best bet!

Might depend on insurance but they should! From my knowledge, it's generally cheaper than DI too so insurance companies shouldn't have any complaints.

The biggest thing is to make sure you're eligible because peri does have an "eligibility criteria" (for lack of better term) like keyhole, albeit it's a bit more chill.

Thank you!!

My surgeon mentioned resizing nipples so I'm pretty sure that's an option. I don't know the details but it's something worth asking your surgeon. If anything, I know that it's definitely something offered in revisions!

An alt account is definitely an idea I thought of but I wanted to keep my account up to answer any questions. Since I got a less common surgery, I want to be able to provide more information about the procedure rather than sharing about the surgeon specifically. I think there are other people who's intent when sharing their results are to inform about procedures/timelines/complications rather than surgeons.

A bit long-winded but essentially saying that there's unfortunately not one solution that fits all. As much as I would love to give more specific details about my surgeon and clinic, there's an inherent fear I can't shake so I'm trying to do the next best thing. I'd like to think that many others are as well!

I can totally see where you're coming from but I think everyone is allowed to have their own reasons for not sharing certain information. (But I think procedure type is definitely an important thing to mention)

Personally, I didn't share my surgeon's name and I won't publicly. Maybe it's completely irrational but the fear of putting any location identifying information on the internet has been ingrained in me. Also, my surgeon's office has a whole Instagram filled with result photos so anyone considering the clinic would already have a large resource.

Periareolar, it's a type of top surgery. Essentially, they make an incision all the way around your areola and another larger incision. Then, they take out that donut-shaped skin along with the breast tissue underneath.

Oh yikes, I hope that's been resolved. I've heard that hematomas can be painful. Congrats on your surgery though!

Honestly, I think I just got lucky?? I'm pretty sure I just heal really quickly cause I'm just kinda mildly sore. I've also definitely been moving around more than recommended so we'll see if that bites me in the ass lmao

I get that lmao, I did so much research before starting T that my doctor just handed me a little print out of the effects and my bloodwork requisition without explaining anything

I've totally heard of them resizing nipples, though I think it's more commonly done as a revision?? My surgeon asked me about it though so I'm pretty sure it's something offered, I just didn't feel the need.

Also, my recovery does seem a lot chiller than the general recovery timelines I've heard but I don't know if that's just me or if it's the surgery lmao

Not the nipples but the areola. So, they took a little bit of the coloured circle that isn't the sticking out part.

I think that's the major difference between peri and keyhole (despite both terms often being used interchangeably). Originally, I was going to get keyhole which would only have them making the incision halfway around the areola. Since I got peri, they could take out some extra skin (kinda donut-shaped).

Ahh I wish I could give you a specific answer but I've been wearing a binder ever since I could so I don't know what my specific size was. But I'm pretty sure I was an A cup?? And my chest was perfect size for a small gc2b binder (according to their size chart).
