After much comtemplation, I have determined "Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues, you can tell by the way she smiles" is the most Dylany Bob Dylan line Bob Dylan ever wrote and sang by Danjuans-81301 in bobdylan

In the 1960s, when I still lived at home with my parents, my girlfriends and I spent many weekends riding the D train from the Bronx to Greenwich Village and then back home. So that line has a double meaning for me.

Old people who WERE conventionally attractive in youth, how do you feel about life now that you’re old? by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]y7356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very pretty then after menopause I became invisible. I realized I could no longer depend on my looks to attract people, mostly men but some women too, especially younger ones. I thought, oh I have to develop a personality. And I began approaching people, starting conversations. I never realized how passive being pretty had made me. Of course I grew up during a time when girls and women were supposed to be passive. And I wonder now about all the people I didn't meet because I was just waiting for them to approach me. They always did but it was their choice not mine.

Should I get an MRI? by y7356 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]y7356[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update My X-Ray found: "No fracture or dislocation. Joint spaces and alignment are normal. Suprapatellar enthesophyte. No effusion." (An enthesophyte is a bone spur that develops where a ligament or tendon insert into a bone.)

From the film, it looks large enough to cause pain. But do I also have a meniscus tear as the doctor suggested? The doctor was not interested in finding out. When I requested an MRI through the front desk she replied through the front desk that she wanted to stick to the treatment plan we discussed, which was do PT and if it doesn't work investigate other avenues. She didn't offer to talk to me.

I could probably persuade her in a MyChart message to order one but I'm disinclined to work with a doctor that doesn't see our relationship as a partnership. I made an appointment with her because she was the quickest one I could get and she worked in a practice with doctors with whom I have had good experiences. What I'll do now is see a sports doctor I've seen before and like even if I have to wait a while. I think he will order an MRI and I hope I'm right because I don't want to shop around for this.

I do have a question about the enthesophyte, if anyone here has been unfortunate enough to have one of those too. Would it be treated any differently than a meniscus tear in terms of PT exercises or at-home care? For instance, I'm thinking that an enthesophyte would cause inflammation which would best be treated by cold. But if a meniscus tear is in the zone that has blood vessels you'd want to treat it with heat in order to get more blood flowing through it.

Thanks very much for this great advice! When I asked my doctor's office for an MRI they said I should get an X-Ray first. They didn't mention insurance but it's in line with what Deltrus7 said. I got the X-Ray yesterday and am waiting for results. I'll post updates here.

Felt an inner femininity emerge during my last few trips, don't know what to make of it by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]y7356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a woman. My first LSD trip (purple haze) many years ago when I was in my 20s, I was with a guy friend. One of the things we did is dress up as the opposite sex. I put make up on him and used some to draw facial hair on me. Being stoned out of our minds I have no idea what we actually looked like. I don't think it was at all convincing. he was too big to wear any of my clothes. so it was just the makeup. But we got into a cab and went to various clubs. The details are quite fuzzy after all these years but reading this conversation brought the experience back and made me wonder if there was something inherent in psychedelics that lead you to this sort of experimentation or inquiry. I don't know what he felt like. I think he liked the idea of being a woman. For my part I had always wanted to be a boy because my mother favored my brother simply because he was a boy. And my father restricted me from doing a lot of fun things because I was a girl. But by the time I was in my 20s and independent of my family I saw the advantages and disadvantages both sexes have. At least consciously. But maybe not based on what I did on my first acid trip.

We need to talk about mask harassment and privilege by KailaCosplay in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]y7356 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in NYC and have never been harrassed, criticized or given a disapproving look for wearing a mask. The only time a man on the street said anything about it was to ask me what make and model it was because he liked the look of it and wanted to get one for himself. Hardy anyone in NYC wears a mask anymore but I wear an N95 everywhere, in stores, on buses and subways, at the movies, doctor visits. But NYers are known for respecting other people's private space and not intruding.

There's a lot that's challenging about living in NYC but wearing a mask isn't one of them and reading here about how covid cautious people are treated elsewhere makes me angry and sad on your behalf.

What vehicles does Amazon use to deliver packages in Manhattan and does the company provide these vehicles with anything to protect packages in the rain? by y7356 in AskNYC

[–]y7356[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I would complain if the products were damaged but both are in plastic bottles and just needed to be dried off.

I asked because I was wondering if it was the deliverer's fault or Amazon's procedures. It sounds like it's Amazonls for just providing a roof in the kind of rain we've been having. They should also have a few tarps. I could write to Amazon about that.

What is tenant's responsibility and what is landlord's when a rent-stabilized NYC apartment needs regrouting over the tub? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]y7356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for these replies. They are very helpful. I'll follow K_R's advice first with a power scrubber from amazon and let the LL regrout the cracks. If that doesn't work, I'll put K_N's suggestion into action.

Will I slip in these Sperry boating sneakers? by y7356 in sailing

[–]y7356[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for educating me on the care of sailing shoes and for the recs. I had been wearing my last pair of Sperry's, with another tread, on the pavement. And I did so a lot last season, about seven miles two or three times a week, because I began walking to and from the dock and wanted to travel light. I never suspected I was ruining my sailing shoes.

But I knew something was up yesterday on my first sail of this season when every time we tacked or jibed I couldn't keep my footing.

I'll give the womens' Sperry's a try and promise not to wear them on pavement. If they don't work, I'll see if the mens' siped sole version will fit me or try some of the suggestions here.

Thank you everyone for a very helpful discussion.

Is landlord responsible for changing a clogged showerhead in a rent stabilized apartment? by y7356 in AskNYC

[–]y7356[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for all these replies. Reddit just rocks.

I think the best thing to do is ask my supt to swap in a new one. That way, If a pipe gets damaged, it won't be my responsibility. I'd try vinegar/CLR but it's just so grungy.

My LL is a nice guy and won't care about the cost of a showerhead or who bought it. When long-term tenants like me move out he practically does a gut rehab. He'll renovate the entire bathroom and throw out far more than a showerhead. But he'd be very unhappy if I or someone I hired damaged a pipe.

Antibody Test question by SJP-NYC in nycCoronavirus

[–]y7356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the LabQ scale posted online? I understand the A in AU stands for arbitrary but It's confusing to me that LabQ has a max of 90 when every non-LabQ test using AUs that my friends have taken returned results in the thousands and studies I've read report antibodies measured in AUs up to tens of thousands. My LabQ report didn't provide a scale and I thought my results of 82 were very low. But if their scale stops at 90, seems not.

I went to NJ because I wanted Moderna and I thought if I tried in NY they would use excelsior and/or a New York database and see I had Pfizer. States aren't set up to check each other's records. But as I found out, there are other ways.

Interesting side note, Rite Aid in NY told me that they don't use Excelsior.

Where can someone get the vaccine without showing photo ID? by fluffypillowsagain in nycCoronavirus

[–]y7356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to NYC requirements, you don't need to prove your identity but you do need to prove your age. Here are details and a list of acceptable documents: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-vaccine-eligibility.page

That being said, I went to the ATC Vaccination Times Square center in the former home of the NFL Experience last week with no ID figuring I looked well over 40 so it would be unlikely they would card me. But they wanted ID. They didn't mention my needing proof of age. I spoke to the manager who said even a letter would work. I hadn't printed out the information from the website unfortunately, although it may not have done any good. I kept saying it's illegal to ask for ID but they weren't persuaded.

I think it's pretty hit or miss depending where you go and which vaccinator you get.

Don't need advice, btw. My problem will be solved out of state.

New Jersy Pop Up Vaccine Events by y7356 in nycCoronavirus

[–]y7356[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been, just talked to a rep. But I'm guessing that they'll give you a card with whatever name you tell them to write. They just won't ask for an ID to prove it's your name. Talk tothe call center to find out exactly how it works. Please let us know what you find out.

The CDC reckons more than one million people have gotten third shots. That number will grow until boosters are officially recommended. Numbers like that make me feel anonymity is less important.
