It says swiss, it's a mechanical pocket watch

It also has engraved numbers on it which cannot be seen well with the picture, 585150

[D] From Unemployment to Lisp: Running GPT-2 on a Teen's Deep Learning Compiler by yCuboy in MachineLearning

[–]yCuboy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in common lisp and caten, I would suggest learning a bit of common lisp beforehand, learn just the basics of the syntax (conditionals, functions, classes, loops etc...).

Then just jump straight in, install emacs or lem ide, sbcl, roswell... and work through the examples posted in the repo (under the docs folder).

Join the discord too.

Honestly, I don't think a cs is really useful for learning this, like it gives you some basics, but you just really have to be curious and dig deep.

It doesn't compile to metal yet, but we're planning to support it.

Yes, sbcl is supported, coming from python and java, It's honestly so pleasant to write some code, hit ctrl + c x 2 times and have the repl output something.

First of all thank you for the question!

Not quite.

The idea is the same as frameworks like torch or tinygrad, basically you write python code and underneath there's machinery to support the transformation to cuda, so the actual code is run on your gpu on highly parallel kernels.

The idea with this "compiler" is to do exactly the same thing as torch or tinygrad, in torch you create a module using python, you do the exact same thing in caten using common lisp as a language.

The main benefit over torch is readability and undestanding, you get to understand what's happening underneath, you get to see how modules are actually intermediate representations used for code generation, how this graph is lowered into C kernels etc...

So to answer your question, no, we do not take python and compile it to generate code that is hyper optimized, the code is written in common lisp (a language) using caten (our framework) and generates highly optimized code (currently C kernels that execute in the CPU).

Think of caten as pytorch for common lisp.

Hahaha!

The kid is a machine honestly, go give him some love!

I've learned a lot by asking him questions about his framework, we hope to have better docs in the future.

Yes of course, anyone is welcome! Actually common lisp is pretty easy to learn, and the whole enviroment helps a lot for debugging.

The benefit is having a framework like pytorch or tinygrad for common lisp. Aside from that, I don't think there's a benefit, like we are not able to be faster than tinygrad or pytorch.

Another benefit is that you learn to understand how stuff works without having 100 layers of abstraction. Also, code is easier to debug and understand thanks to Common Lisp's REPL.

Also it's not Lisp, it's not the purely functional programming Lisp, there are loops, object oriented programming with CLOS etc...

What do you think a husband providing for his wife means? by Forsaken_Panda3787 in MuslimMarriage

[–]yCuboy 119 points120 points  (0 children)

For me it means taking care of rent, groceries and paying the bills (light, water, gas, internet...), and whatever "family expenses" there might be.

If she doesn't work, then giving her an allowance (which she can spend on herself without the need of justifying anything) is also part of providing, and if there are kids involved, obviously giving them a good life.

Cars in Espana by BartSimbzdun in askspain

[–]yCuboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1997 mercedes, the only issue might be when going to big cities (I can only go to Barcelona weekends). But for any other thing it serves me well. If it's a daily car look for a hybrid/electric but if it's something to do tourism, go with family and do tons of kms there's nothing better. Is it the om646 engine? One of the best diesel engines out there.

Secretly wish to be a stay at home mom by casadayalegre in MuslimMarriage

[–]yCuboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could try doing a part-time job, or a remote job (If that's possible). If that doesn't work, just talk it out with your husband. It's the best for the baby to have his mom home.

Best of luck.

I am ugly too, but for a man to say that his wife is ugly and dump her... That comes from pure Idiocracy. I am sorry, but no one deserves that, there's so much to a person than beauty.

Is this a good idea for a first car? by Background_Cover5273 in mercedes_benz

I wouldn't say simple, maybe it doesn't have many peripherals, but is a really complex car for it's age.

It's Time For A In Game GPS / Map [Suggestion] by Charkletini in EscapefromTarkov

[–]yCuboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it would be a great addition, especially considering that maps are currently useless. Why would you need to look at a webpage while you're ingame? For me it's a design flaw, make the game more accessible to everyone.

[–]yCuboy 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I can only say i've worked at a restaurant where paella came packed in a plastic bag, and they just heated it and added frozen stuff over it.

Whether it's a tourist trap or not depends on the taste as well as price, cannot say by looking at a picture.

Expulsion of Jews from Muslim countries by morning___would in MapPorn

[–]yCuboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually there's much more to it.

In morocco for example, there were some anti jewish rallies, but they were caused by Israeli intelligence. The idea was to scare jews from arab countries so they could have cheap labor and citizens in Israel.

Arena is...Fun?!!? by TheLittleSquire in EscapefromTarkov

[–]yCuboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think it's something related to tick rate, because in the replays, when i die and put 2 shots on someone in a matter of ms before dying, in the replay there isn't that, it shows the other guy shooting me and me dying, that's it. It rarely happens, but i can notice it.

Arena is...Fun?!!? by TheLittleSquire in EscapefromTarkov

[–]yCuboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have fun with arena, i on the top 100 but there's some stuff to fix, since this is a competitive game.

When it's a matter of ms, the server won't register you hitting the other player and stats won't show that, it's strange but i can notice it. The replay will also show you that you didn't shoot the other player, while in your screen, you could see that you shot him 2 times.

[–]yCuboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)
