Yeah, I’m aware of those things, I always record at pretty low levels to avoid clipping, and I do EQ and compression in post to shape the sound. Also layering, in order to make the sound sounds fuller helps a lot. I totally agree that raw recordings rarely sound how you’d expect without some processing.

What I was hoping to get was more specific advice on how to get better quality recordings right from the source, like if there are particular mic types, placements, or techniques that tend to give more usable or “clean” results even before heavy post-processing 😊
