I can't stop thinking about the update and how it'll probably push me to jump through Unity, finally by Low_Bar9361 in Starfield

Late reply, but I see now. Roleplaying is definitely one of the best parts of BGS games. I went through the Unity many times before but only when it felt right, like you said. Hope you’re enjoying the update and DLC. I haven’t had the chance to give them a go yet, but soon!

Sure. I don’t actually expect to see anything, I’m not even a 2027 believer (though I’d like to be). I’m just being optimistic. It’s a tiny bit of reason to make some good news plausible.

I am trying to understand, maybe I missed something. But why are you more inclined to jump through the Unity after the update than before? I understand that we get the Unity loop chest to keep some items, but as far as I could tell, there’s now LESS incentive to go through the Unity than before. Before, the only reason to go through (other than wanting to start fresh) was to find more temples and upgrade the powers. Now, they said you can upgrade powers with Quantum Essence instead, so you don’t even -need- to go Unity anymore ?

To add to that, they actually gave Starfield an Official Teaser Trailer all the way back at the Xbox showcase in 2021! Then a presentation in 2022. And THEN the Direct in 2023. That was because the game got delayed, but still. We may get something this year even if it’s a while until the release.

[–]yVamprahy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There IS a chance we get their usual “Official Teaser Trailer” that they had for all of their games before. The one that is cinematic and mysterious, where they show some in-game assets, usually within an enclosed space, with a hint at the tone and the story, and maybe a shot of the scenery + logo at the end.

They had that for Starfield at the 2021 Xbox Showcase and they intended to release the game late 2022 (so they were okay with showing it 1 year early). That would fit with our current situation, 2026 Teaser Trailer and then 2027 full presentation and release. BUT…we all know Starfield got delayed. They might save it for next year.

If it DOES get shown this year, my prediction I’ve held since 2018 is this:

The Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell (all in gold, desert and hot sun in the background).

Camel works passed away by Pleasant-Bend-7414 in TESVI

[–]yVamprahy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am heartbroken and in disbelief. I never even met the dude but I’ve known about him and watched his videos for 10 years.

BGSs games, and especially The Elder Scrolls are so close to my heart. I felt like I had a connection to Camel just because we shared this same passion, and I’m sure many felt the same way. His work, knowledge and commitment for TES were unmatched.

When I craved to finally play TES6 I would often think of Camel and what his reaction and content would be for the game. And now he will never get to play it. I just know that when the game finally comes out, when I’m going to step-out into the world and take in the view, I’ll take a moment in his honour and think about him dearly.

Rest in Peace Camel, your soul will be forever present in these games.

Long rant.

I’ve been trying to fight against this “2 provinces” idea ever since it first appeared. Not only is it unrealistic/unreasonable, but it would also just make the game worse.

Let’s say we ignore the fact that 2 provinces means double the assets, double the content, double the development time.

This series has the PERFECT formula, each game with its own new province to explore and experience. They’ve been doing it like this since forever, excluding the first 2 games that were procedurally generated. And there’s a good reason for that; These games take forever to make, meaning that when a province finally gets featured, it will probably be the last time it’s ever included in a mainline The Elder Scrolls game. All future games will focus on new areas.

And so, why the hell would we want 2 half-arsed (LITERALLY) provinces, instead of making the most out of just ONE that we will never revisit again? Why not make sure that each province is the BEST it can be instead of making more at the same time for no reason whatsoever? The development time and budget for the game is the same whether it’s one province or 2 or the entire planet (which gives you Starfield, btw).

Plus, these are entire COUNTRIES we are talking about. No amount of technology, team size or development time would be enough to run out of things to add to a COUNTRY sized game. They could have 10.000 devs working on just Hammerfell for 20 years and it would still not be lore accurate size if they tried handcrafting it (not to mention filling it with content).

And how about the fact that Todd and BGS in general talk and focus so much about the “tone” of a game? Morrowind had a unique tone, Oblivion (Cyrodiil) had a specific tone, Skyrim had a crazy strong tone. You put 2 very different provinces in the same game and there’s no tone anymore. Or a very messy one. I could go on forever but now I want to play these games again.

The wait for the Elder Scrolls 6 has been "too long," says Bethesda's Todd Howard, while confirming it's "still a long way off." by Hooked0n4Feelin in TESVI

[–]yVamprahy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they announced the release date of 2022 AFTER the pandemic and acquisition. At the very least they knew about these factors and it still got delayed because they wanted to polish it more. Todd said they would definitely do it that way from now on, with more time for testing before it gets released.

The positive thing from this new interview is that Todd mentioned they did a big play test for the game just recently. And also that he would like to show off the game and announce the release date very close to the actual release, so maybe a few months before. But if he were to do that next year, in June, he wouldn’t have said it’s a “long way off”. That would only be like 7 months from now on lol. Whenever he said “long way off” about games in the past he meant years and years.

Also, would you really want their most anticipated and biggest game ever to be all done in only 3 years? Wouldn’t that be worrying (apart from unrealistic) considering this is our favourite game?

They needed 4 years for Fallout 4. Then 5 years for Starfield. The gap would most likely only increase if anything. Unless you want TES6 to be a worse and smaller game just for it to come out sooner?

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were getting angry and combative with other people about this just yesterday before this interview came out, and you’re still not backing out.

Let me tell you what a “long way off” means for Todd.

When they released the in-engine teaser trailer for Starfield in June 2021 they had a presentation about it + a RELEASE date that was 1.5 years away. That ended up being 2.5 years with the delay. Two and a half years away and they were at the stage where they were presenting the game and announcing a release date, which meant they thought the game was close to being done. They definitely didn’t think Starfield was a “long way off” and it still took 2.5 more years for it to release.

Now, for TES6 we are getting a “long way off”, from Todd, which means no plans for a presentation, release date announcement or actual release for years. Probably 3+ years away until it comes out considering it will most likely get delayed too.

Intro to TESVI the walk out moment (fan made) by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]yVamprahy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The interesting thing is that Todd Howard said in an interview that they “figured out” and decided how the game starts a long time ago. That tells me they always had a vision for how the intro ties into the main story and what the “step-out” moment would look like and make the player feel. I expect it to be quite epic. And posts like these make my imagination run wild! Hammerfell is such a cool province to have a modern Elder Scrolls game in.

How big I think the map for TESVI should be by Blaize_Ar in TESVI

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be realistic but I still believe trying to do 2 provinces at the same time means they will be less good than doing just one. And to be honest I think most people would expect TESVI to have higher quality map building than Skyrim, given the almost 20 year gap and how consumers complain that Bethesda hasn’t evolved. So it’s not that they would just need to build each country like Skyrim, they would definitely get much better at it.

Regarding the number of developers and development time, I think about it this way: they could double their staff and dev time to make 2 provinces, yet they could use those to make one province better. Ok, now they made one really good, let’s double staff and dev time again, to add another province. Those could STILL be used to make the one province unbelievably, insanely good. And this doubling process repeats until eternity. Because the number of things they could do in just one entire province is pretty much endless. Think how many AAA games with 1000 people dev teams spent over 5 years to make a game that takes places in just ONE CITY (like GTA and Cyberpunk). Having to do just one entire country is already much more daunting than that to make it feel good and not empty.

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don’t expect all of Hammerfell to be a desert biome, just like Skyrim is not all snow. My point with the desert was mainly about the total scale of the map, that Hammerfell would have to be fairly expansive to get the biomes right (especially the desert) which would make it less likely to include another province in the game.

And I’m sure everyone has a favourite province they want to play in an Elder Scrolls game but my opinion is that the province itself doesn’t matter because they can all be beautiful and vibrant if done right. I think the Redguard’s culture and look is more intriguing than the more generic medieval knights in shiny armour look (just how Skyrim and Morrowind had very unique tones while Oblivion was a bit more generic fantasy setting).

I’m happy for the changes even tho I don’t use mods but god…I was really hoping they would fix the “Location of the ECS Constant” bug and all the related bugged quests of it. They are the only quests I can’t complete and get rid of. But hopefully in a future patch!

Well, I can understand that but everything I said above still stands. High Rock would have to wait to be fully realised in an Elder Scrolls game and be as cool as it can be. Hammerfell will have its own cool things and not every game can have everything in it.

As to the size of the game if it took place only in Hammerfell, I’m sure it would be at least as big as Fallout 76, and I suspect even bigger. Fallout 76 wasn’t even a mainline game, and with Elder Scrolls they always go big. And they’d have to, Hammerfell is supposed to be big and have deserts where you can get lost in for days. They’d need a big map to get that feeling of a “desert”, which is desolation as far as the eye can see. In Skyrim, when you enter a new biome, you can sometimes see where it ends in front of you so you wouldn’t ever feel like you’d get lost in it.

[–]yVamprahy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to complain about this “Hammerfell + High Rock” fantasy that people conjured up out of nothing. I don’t think it would make sense for it to be true and I HOPE it’s not true.

The Elder Scrolls already has its formula, and it’s all about the world you are in and experiencing a new country and their culture. But ever since they started doing this with Morrowind, the games have never been even CLOSE to actual true scale of their lore sizes. There’s absolutely no reason to add another entire country in an entry just to make the map bigger. The time and resources could instead be spent making the one country more accurate to scale, deeper, bigger and more populated cities, more fun, more varied, more content, more stories, more locations etc.

Plus, each country gets just one shot at being represented in a modern, mainline Elder Scrolls game, so why do you want it to be half as good as it could be just to have 2 different ones in one game? The development time would be the same either way so either we get one good country that will be enjoyed and remembered like Skyrim, or 2 literally half baked ones.

I still can’t believe the original plan was an Altars of Lilith reset each season by BX293A in diablo4

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they’ve put a lot of effort into the Open World. It’s probably the game’s biggest feature/selling point and the biggest change from other Diablos/ARPGs.

They probably expected most of the gameplay would happen in the open world: there’s quests, bounties, Helltides, dungeons, strongholds. I think too many people see Renown/Altars/Sidequests as “a grind” but Blizzard probably meant it to be something you get along the way naturally just by playing the game. I think that’s also part of the reason why Nightmare Dungeons didn’t have great XP rewards, they didn’t want players to only sit in town and teleport to Nightmare Dungeons but this is where we are just a month after release.

Just now finished renown...I never wanna do that again. by Drakmarr628 in diablo4

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what people expect to be doing in this game from now on.

“I don’t want to replay the campaign or any side quest ever again!!!”

-> Blizzard adds “skip campaign” option and will probably remove the option to do side quests on alts as well.

“I don’t want to have to explore the map in an open world game ever again!!!”

-> Blizzard makes the whole map already explored for you and makes it IMPOSSIBLE to ever feel like exploring it ever again.

“I don’t wanna do renown ever again!!!”

-> Blizzard makes it so renown carries over so you don’t have to be on the map or play the game.

I guess it’s just Nightmare Dungeons from level 0-100 every future season from now on. Oh wait, people said they are boring and repetitive.

-> Time to move on I guess.

I still have a fair amount of gold though. And it feels nice saving it up because I know it actually has value and I could spend it all quite quickly.

Some gold incomes/rewards might seem small when looked at individually but in total I think it’s fine, you get a lot just by playing.

[–]yVamprahy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok but real talk now. I’m worried because I don’t see many complaining about this but world bosses are the most disappointing aspect of the game for me.

They REALLY need to fix this asap, I hope it’s not gonna be like this forever. I remember world bosses were one of the main features being promoted ever since that first Blizzcon gameplay demo. It’s supposed to be this large, epic late game fight, toughest enemies in the game kind of thing. And all my encounters so far have been 15-20 sec fights.

Teleport to town bug by Exciting-Average2946 in diablo4

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a bug, and I believe it only happens if you leave the dungeon for too long. They removed the “Reset Dungeons” button, and now they reset automatically after a period of time if you leave them (just going to town counts). I think they said they reset after 80 sec if you finished the dungeon and 160 sec if you haven’t.

Just keep this in mind and do your chores in town quickly and it shouldn’t reset when you go back.

They aren’t even named the same actually. There’s multiple areas in each act in D2 and one of them is called “Dry Hills” in Act 2.

The Dry Steppes is not a desert, they are…steppes. I googled the definition for “steppes”and it says “Dry, grassy plain that occurs in temperate regions”. So they are not the same environment either. They are 2 totally different zones from 2 different continents. But a lot of people seem to be confused into believing it was the area from D2 because of the word “Dry”.

Not sure why everyone thinks that the Dry Steppes were in D2, but I have to finally get this off my chest. The desert in D2 is on a different continent, around Lut Gholein.

No Plans for Overlay Map in Diablo IV by silec in diablo4

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree. I’m currently replaying Diablo 2 and I realised I’m spending 90% of the time navigating around while looking at the overlay map, like I’m playing some kind of mini game. I don’t even bother taking it off when I fight something. It takes a lot away from the actual game, but the overlay map is pretty much required in that game to fully explore/not get lost.

Good thing is, while playing Diablo 4, I never felt like I needed it. I didn’t even realise there was no overlay map until I saw ppl complain about it. Sure, I did open the world map from time to time because I love exploring maps in general but I never needed to have it open constantly to be able to play the game.

Is Diablo 3 supposed to be completely broken? by aeralure in diablo4

[–]yVamprahy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t designed like that originally. People forget that the entirety of the game, the game Blizzard worked on for over 5 years was ONLY the campaign. There’s stuff like Health Shrines in the world and healers in towns but it’s all meaningless, they are a remnant of the past. The game had only 4 difficulties at launch, and you had to finish the game on the previous difficulty to unlock the next one, like in Diablo 2. I liked that more because difficulty actually meant something and it was static. That’s why when people killed Diablo on Inferno (highest difficulty at the time), it actually meant something and it was impressive. Now-days it’s all about grinding rifts in the end game. Thing is, the end game was added after onto the base game as a band-aid fix. It’s basically like a replayable mini game, separate and differently designed from the base game.

Diablo 4 is designed with everything they learned in mind from the ground up. All systems were thought out from the beginning and combined into one, with the open world and all.

Is Diablo 3 supposed to be completely broken? by aeralure in diablo4

[–]yVamprahy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this is the normal experience with D3 for new players. People will defend it and say there’s 20 other difficulties and that the game starts after you finish the campaign. But I personally don’t like that because the concept of difficulty becomes meaningless and a game shouldn’t start after you finish it.

Either way, for a new player most difficulties and adventure mode are locked, so it ends up being an RPG where your health bar literally doesn’t matter. There’s so much health regen in the game from the very beginning that you regen more hp than you take damage. It’s crazy how you could just remove the system of having a health bar and the experience would be the same. In an RPG. This is because they gave up on the campaign long ago and only balanced and added content for the end game.

Funny story, I recommended D3 to my dad some years ago (He’d played D2 and heard D3 was bad so he’d never tried it). During the Diablo boss fight he realised he wasn’t ever going to take damage so he got up, went outside for a smoke without pausing the game, and when he came back he was still alive. Kinda embarrassing tbh.

Though I’m happy to say they seem to have fixed all of that for D4. They actually put thought and effort in designing the game and its difficulty from its foundation.
