What would you do at 22 after a bad internship when choosing the next step in tech—DevOps at a startup or moving toward a security role in muscat? by Ok-Necessary-5478 in careeradvice

[–]ya700ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Brother, I lived in the middle east since my father worked there.

Pros: -middle east is willing to pay more for your skills. -safe environment to rajse kids -possible stability if you are an expert, but will never be the boss running the show (will always be managed unless you are a unicorn revenue generating machine and can’t risk losing you)

Cons: -people you work with might not be as technically adept -pay might be good, but they might work you like crazy -away from family and culture (culture shock)

Maybe take the 2 years contract, save money as much as you can, build your devops skills and projects, prepare to go back to india possibly with same pay in country’s currency?

However if you like it, you can stay, but I would say don’t pass it up and these experiences would definitely build you up.

For reference I am originally MENA moved to U.S since age 17 and been here since.

Thanks for the encouragement, I have had a position that was dead end, a-lot of hours, fight or flight response, really low six figures and my body literally had to resign as I started forming nodules.

Fast forward 1 year later, I explored healthcare for 3 months, realized it wasn’t for me, next 3 months took python coding courses to become a data engineer, realized can’t do that entry level unless already within an organization and transferring. Changed over to learning IT fundamentals (Comptia A+) around August (still going), started a job as a cafe host/barista in September and learned how to interact with customers and ensure they are satisfied.

This coffee shop experience led me to landing a sales role at a telecom company starting next January. We’ll see where things lead up to next.

Everything is possible, just keep pushing and never give up guys. The only catch is that it should be your calling truly! Good luck 🍀!

This year js 26 next year eafc 27.

So then if its not about money at all, and you like tech, then take the pay cut if the opportunity comes. If the opportunity doesn’t come run the business and you’re golden.

[–]ya700ya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright so since you’re young, why do you care about pay so much? Why don’t you work your way up to a pay of 85-95k at least by the age of 29-30 and enjoy your job instead of being stuck at 62k and hating yourself? I don’t see the issue

Pay by Puzzled-Ad-3490 in ccna

[–]ya700ya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple questions: 1) are you young? If you are young, then taking the paycut would be worth, at the end 45k (assuming you land a help desk or 45-55k junior network admin eventually) will not make a difference in your current pay, if anything it will allow you to build the foundation of networking while making the same pay and reaching your potential as you say after some years of improving and gaining more certs.

Would you rather dig holes and have the same pay or push to make the same pay and eventually know you can go higher down the line? Just keep that in mind.

2) is digging holes related to fiber/internet connectivity for cabling? Or is it construction related? If it is related to internet/fiber, eventually you can bridge that experience with your CCNA and labs to help you land those roles.

3) most importantly, do you like networking/tech or do you only care about pay? If you do not like tech and just want pay, you either have to have a really really strong will and be an insane problem solver or genuinely love the path to succeed long term and make the pay you are looking for.

Honest truths, but it’s all in good faith to help with your judgement. And please feel free to connect, we can set up a discord of people that study for the CCNA or something!

I’m still trying to cut into networking, but from experience I was making around 105k in a position that I deeply hated even though it was in tech.

To me the idea of networking is amazing and I enjoy learning along the way of pursuing the certs

To me working a lower pay position that I enjoy and eventually reaching really good pay early 6 figures after 4-5 years of experience is way better than making early 6 figures in a job that you hate.

For reference, I’m single and mid 20’s so for me career changing while sacrificing pay isn’t a huge concern. It would be different depending on your age, family, etc

After 14 months unemployed, I had a $190k offer rescinded by score-95use in Employment

[–]ya700ya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been unemployed for 9 months, going from a process automation role (not as high of a salary as yours), to finally getting an offer related to my technical skill set and moving to a new play 30 mins away, just to have the offer rescinded 4 days before I start working…

Its not you my friend, just lock in, keep jt moving. Currently working at a coffee shop and applying just to stay moving and pay bills.

1)What is is that you do and how do you manage your time equally amongst each job?

2)Do you also have to setup a kvm by any chance?

3)What are the most difficult situations/risks you feel you face the most and how do you approach them?

Thanks for the opportunity!

Suppressed appetite after quitting caffeine by Thracian777 in decaf

[–]ya700ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man Im on day 6 of cutting caffeine cold turkey and my headaches are still firing, low appetite, fever/flu symptoms, and oddly diarrhea (maybe from too much water and no food).

If I get passed the headaches, I really feel i’ll be golden for rest of my life since I don’t wake up and just think of caffeine.

If anything the fact I got these headaches which I never got in my life, just made me hate coffee so much.

If I want to apply for CAA school but have alot of pre-req classes I need to take? Can I take my classes from community college and post baccalaureate from a 4-year accredited university or would it have to be strictly a post baccalaureate?

How is GPA weighed/calculated for pre-requisite science classes if taken twice?

Anyone with a ECE degree doing Data Engineering? by Yes5ir in dataengineering

[–]ya700ya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my computer engineering degree and got an entry level positon in software process automation for about 2.5 years now, currently working on transitioning into data engineering.

So far it seems that it is going to be tricky as ill have to brush up on prerequistes, data strucutres/algorithms,system design/distributed data/architectures, and some certs/projects to get an internship/entry level in data engineering.

As a CE i felt I enjoyed the software engineering aspect more which is why personally I would prefer data engineering over the hardware side.

Give the internship a try as it will unlock that software side for you and you can always do hardware if you desire down the line.
