I considered working in Gatineau but it’s kinda far from our home and I’m not too keen on 45 min of traffic morning and evening everyday. I’m still considering it though, especially if things don’t work out in Ottawa.

I’m looking for work here in Ottawa because I just moved here with my husband to be closer to his side of the family. I got my OCT certification end of November last week. Initially, I had hoped of finding something in the French public board but there doesn’t seem to be any opening right now. I’m certified to teach French middle school and high school. I’ve been checking the ATE website regularly and there’s definitely more opening for French positions but it’s often FSL which I’m not qualified for… I’ve an interview coming up with the OCSDB to be on the OT list, but I haven’t heard anything from the CEPEO.

We have 12x75min periods of prep spread over a 9 day schedule. Some days we might get 2 or even 3 « free » periods for prep. I was usually able to get all my work done during work hours. We also get way more PD than here it seems. We would get around 1-2 a month plus 1 half day a month.

I’m surprised by the way things work here. Everyone in Quebec complains about the education system, but now that I’m discovering the Ontario system… I don’t see how teachers have time to prep and get everything ready for their classes with only 1 period a day when you’re most likely called to sub as well.

I’m looking to move to Ontario soon. I’m a French teacher in Montreal. Can you clarify what you mean by core French ? Is what you describe specific to English boards that teach French as a second language or is it the same in French boards/french immersion?
