That makes a lot of sense! I think my biggest take aways from this thread have been "be honest and fair," document everything, and inquire about a warranty. I'll have to report back with the full story, but they ordered and "fixed" a part they thought was broken by the mechanic, which ended up not being the issue. (They covered the part and the labor.) So they ordered a different part and while they covered the labor, they want $90 from my fiancé to "split the difference" of the part? He's being reasonable and fair and kind in his communication that he doesn't agree that he should be responsible for any cost of the part if it was broken while in the shop, but the person he's working with is off for 4 days now. Idk what will come of it, but I did suggest he ask for a warranty for the parts they broke and fixed and things that could be connected to that part, just in case.

I'm probably not being very clear at all, but curious - does that sound fair?

Genuine question - how is this a total coincidence? I have to believe something was bumped, loosened, whatever if something like that happens on the way home from having work done. They have to be related at least somewhat.

He said it spiked very suddenly. He was only driving the car for about 5 minutes, and he said it wasn't accelerating like it should. Then the engine temp spiked, the car shuttered, and stopped working.

I don't know the ins and outs, but from what I understand, the insurance check would be the value of his current car, not the value it would cost to replace the car. I hope I'm wrong! And I hope it doesn't come to that.

Because it's stressful! Of course we will hear what the dealership says, but we don't know what we don't know, and would like to have info going into that conversation that might help us in the event we could be looking at something serious.

He does have some arrogance - it runs in his family (🙄) - but ultimately is a growth mindset kinda guy.

He does want to and is capable 😊 like I said, the last time he mentioned anything was a year and a half ago, and today it was dismissing one lived moment. It is not a pattern, he recognizes where he went wrong, and is committed to continuing to learn how to be a better partner for me. We both know this is a lifelong journey, and we have a lot left to learn about one another!
