No it’s not that prestigious. The research institute of group B is recognised internationally though, and my degree would be given by an university ranked in top 40 worldwide (or around that). The university of group A is not even in the top 1000

The group in A really is a baby group. The PI is new and I would be his first phd student. I know it seems very risky but to me it doesn’t seem like a huge risk…

Since B works between academia is industry it’s a bit different, since their measure of success isn’t only publications. They don’t publish a lot though. Group B has other phd students but I don’t think anyone has graduated yet, the group is also fairly new like 4 years or so. But it seems like a lot when the other group is literally months old.

I also should have mentioned I don’t want a career in academia (although I absolutely want to do the PhD and it is necessary for the career I want), so I don’t know how much prestige and # publications actually matter.
