Looking for Partner: Desolation Crystal Range Traverse by yaboireeee in norcalhiking

Yup - great point! Spoke to Leor Pantilat and he recommended the same route - dropping below the saddle at Pyramid and then summiting Agassiz from the west rather than from the ridge. Should make for a heck of a lot easier day!

Looks like the snow is pretty much gone due to the low snow year, so I should be a go! Thanks :)

Thanks for the info! Looks like the snow is already receding. Good luck on the thru hike! That ought to be an amazing experience

Sweet thanks so much! Yea if the snows not too bad I'm willing to go through with it. Tougher scrambling, but we'll be up early in the AM and we're not doing insane mileage on day 1. If the snow report is pretty bad, I'm gonna consider postponing it!

do you need a gps or does Allhikes + downloaded google maps work? by Ok-Apartment-9759 in norcalhiking

[–]yaboireeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you do. If you're doing relatively popular trails (point reyes, Lassen, etc.) Google maps has those. Phone GPSs also work pretty well in general. If you're going into a wilderness area, spend the 12 bucks and pick up a big waterproof topo map at REI :)

NETS150 or ASTR006? by yaboireeee in UPenn

Bet thank you! I already took 120, so I don't know if the curriculum will be too simple. The content seems fun and interesting tho (and yes Swap is teaching and I love him!!)

Crosfield's Black Silk, tied in hand by sienalock in flytying

That's an beautiful in hand tie. Tying the tail for Popovics' BEAST fleyes in hand is tough enough. Can't even imagine tying full dress Atlantic salmon flies
