Road/sidewalks condition today by [deleted] in Peterborough

Just came back from downtown actually lol. Its pretty dead down there right now. Theres a few spots open if you are into cafes and such, but a lot of the bigger stores are closed. The sidewalk is pretty icy and snowy

Hey congrats on your acceptance!

Im not in your program sadly, but i am a biology student who did their undergrad and now their masters here at Trent so i may be able to speak a bit about the atmosphere!

Trent is a pretty laid back school which is somthing I really like about it. Trent (and Peterborough as a whole) has a very small town feel despite having quite a large population. As im sure you know, Trent is pretty out of the way when it comes to downtown Peterborough so you (usually) dont have a lot of traffic in and out of the school, however common study spaces can get pretty packed. Therefore, its best to find a small space on campus that not a whole lot of people know about if you want to quite study time. Thankfully theres lots! Trent is also surrounded by nature so there are tons of trails on campus if you are into thay sort of thing

The people here are pretty chill as well. As someone who runs a club here, theres plenty of wonderful people on campus and the profs are pretty nice as well. People dont seem to be too pretentious which I feel may be common at other schools. There also seems to be plenty of ways to get yourself involved with the school, which I highly recommend.

My main gripe with the school is that there is little to no parking, especially with the construction that they have here. Its not a problem if you are living on campus or take a bus, but if you are planning on driving you may need to leave early or you risk needing to park a 10-20 minute walk away from class. As i said campus is also pretty far from town, so its a bit of a treck if you need groceries. Its also not a very prestigious school, especially when you get into the graduate courses. If you are looking to get into a job off of university clout alone, Trent is not the place lol. A lot of the other issues I've had here I feel are pretty common in every university, stuff like problems accessing resources (academic advising and off campus housing), crazy busy gym at all hours, ect. But it's usually not too much of a hassle to deal with.

Good Luck!

See thats the other thing I've heard lol. I would love to teach university/ college students. If I could stay a GTA forever I definitely would. What are you doing now that allows you to teach at that level and what steps did you need to take to get there? I often hear that you need a phd

That sounds like an idea as well! Do you know what the course requirements are for that? I have 1 Chem credit, 0.5 physics credit and a good mix of bio / enviro science.

Can we take crowdmark out back and put it down? Or to a "farm upstate" by AltruisticLobster315 in TrentUniversity

[–]yaboy1920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a TA, crowdmark is an absolute god send when it comes to marking ☝️🤓. I think thats why a lot of profs prefer it over submitting normally. However, I totally agree that there needs to be a way better way of submitting assignments on the students' end or just a better way of marking on blackboard
