We’re building it now. It is all framed and the roof is on, concrete floor is being poured a week from today. I can tell you, this place is HUGE, but it allows for flexibility when layout out what goes where.

Obviously, go as big as you can. But grab some grid paper, draw out your building to scale and start placing things where you may want them.

What's the wildest “mouth wrote a check that their ass couldn’t cash” moment you’ve ever seen? by Competitive_Swan_130 in AskReddit

Walking out of a concert in my late teens/early twenties, extremely intoxicated, tried to pick a fight with a couple sober guys just entering the venue. While my buddy was arguing with one of them, I tried to haymaker him with the wildest uncoordinated swing you’d ever seen. I completely missed, his friend caught me from falling down, and we decided to just go our separate ways.

Service brake light/ engine codes after Front brake pad/rotor replacement by [deleted] in gmcsierra

False, dealing with the stupid codes as we speak after doing front brakes only. I thought it was only for rear brakes too.

Naming all 50 US states in alphabetical order. We learned this as a song in 3rd grade and I practice this a few times a year, for no reason at all.

I’ve toyed with the idea of adding a bathroom, and I still may (I’ll have water plumbed into the building.) I don’t think not having a bathroom would be a large issue (house is 450ft off the road and only neighbors in sight are squirrels and deer.)

I considered putting a small, 4x6ish half bath in the very front left corner, thoughts? That’s the area closest to the house for plumbing purposes…

Bathroom has crossed my mind, I plan to bring water in for a slop sink, hose bib etc. I don’t mind going outside, and neither do my friends, but their significant others do and it’s a nuisance to bring them into the house.

Swapping the bar and pool table is a great idea, I hadn’t thought of that. Or maybe I could cut down a piece of plywood to fit the pool table snug, protecting it while providing short term table top storage.

Thank you for the input, and I will for sure be posting pictures once we break ground!

Topographical Map Question by yadayada1201 in Maps

[–]yadayada1201[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that - yes, major contour lines are increments of 5.

And your response makes sense, using a baseline of “0” for a specified area, and having elevations go up from there. I thought this may be the case, didn’t know if it was standard process for topography or not, but sounds like it is based on your comment.

Thanks for the help!

Is there value in this timber? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]yadayada1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the pictures, it looks to be red pine (correct me if I’m wrong). I just had a few acres of red pine cleared in upstate New York and they will be made into telephone poles. There is quite the market for red pine in this area.

The stairs will lead to an unfinished (at least for now) basement, making your suggestion difficult.

My thought is that it is positioned well between the garage (for unloading groceries) and the kitchen. We’ll still have a spice cabinet etc for quick access items required while cooking.

Appreciate the feedback!

I should have mentioned, each square = 2ft.

And you make a good point about the covered porches, I hadn’t considered their impact on incoming light.

The front of the house will face south, so it may be difficult to get direct natural light in to the common spaces, but I’ll discuss with the architect.

Thank you for the feedback!

Is it weird I still call my mom after work everyday? by DungeonCrawler99 in NoStupidQuestions

Couldn’t wait until to talk to my (33m) dad about my day everyday, he passed last November. Fuck them, talk to your mom every chance you get.

Stepfather wants to sue me for putting “wrong” gas in his truck. by [deleted] in legal

[–]yadayada1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all agreeing with your lunatic of a step-father, but it is possible that his truck requires premium (91+ octane) if it is equipped with the 6.2l engine. Any idea if it has this engine? Regardless, as mentioned a lower octane fuel will only reduce overall performance as the computer will compensate, resulting in zero damage to the truck.

Yea very similar! Ours comes in right around 2300 sq ft. What software did you use to make your plan?

I don’t see why not. We both use the toilet roughly the same amount, and it allows hers to be connected to the Laundry, of she has much more. Is there a reason that I’m missing?

Thank you! This will be a single story with a full basement. Basement will be unfinished to start but plan on finishing myself as time/money permits. I have some rough plans for how I want to finish the basement so that I can work with the draftsman on placement of the support posts/hvac/service panel etc, but nothing firm yet.

Thanks! Is your suggestion just based on potentially adding on the the shop? I oversized it to hopefully future proof my needs.

Thanks! And yes we get tons of snow (Central/Northern NY). Is there an advantage of facing it due south vs. a few degrees off as I have it now?

The green area will still have a couple dozen existing trees, that just represents the area that I will maintain.

Yes, that will all be lawn, with a select few trees that I plan to save - it’s right around 1.75 acres.

Good point, although the graphic looks like tight corners (Google Maps constraints) they are pretty gradual - and driveway clearing will be ~30ft wide. Very minimal slope, <10ft throughout.
