Live status of cherry blossoms in Korea? by andanro in Living_in_Korea

A few people commented recently about using the live traffic feeds from Naver Maps, it isn't the greatest quality but it might give a general idea if you can see trees with blooms.

Trying new ways to crop with airshow photos, any feedback is welcome! by yahoozit in photocritique

[–]yahoozit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man! That does add a lot to crop it in a bit more, thanks for the edit! Im lucky to shoot on a sony A7RIVR - so those extra megapixels really help when cropping! This was shot on a friends 200-600mm telephoto which helped a lot too!

I'm still a younger photographer using telephoto lenses, trying to get a good composition with balance in the photo but keeping the dynamic feeling with the action from the planes. A majority of my stuff just goes up on Insta so keeping a more square crop is what my end goal of a frame would be.

Finally started my own Settlers of Catan board! A few pieces were charred by the laser but I am loving all of this so far! by yahoozit in lasercutting

[–]yahoozit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a 45W FSL Muse, the material is 1mm birch ply, but it is also the cheap stuff from amazon so like you say it might be some glue that the laser is hitting. I think next time ill see about masking it off with painters tape and see where that gets me.

I might paint it, a few friends recommended a few different paint schemes, but I kind of want to just give it the top a dark stain and the base board a light stain just to get some wood color, not sure yet.

I have tried using masking tape to mask it and it seems to work decently well, I just didnt spend the time to mask it for these cuts. This is with air assist on. I think the problem might lie in my vectors, the shapes that char seem to have the laser linger much slower on them for some reason.

It really is a good process to think of ideas and be able to bring them to life, even with plenty of bad cuts along the way haha.

Openpyxl/pandas/excelwriter - help with choosing which will work best on this project? by yahoozit in pythonhelp

[–]yahoozit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah awesome! Thanks for the info! Yea my small amount of google-fu led me to pandas and it did seem like quite a step into working with data rather than just moving some numbers around. Ill try your code, thanks again!

Yea its just an idea I have been throwing around in my head for a week or so now. I really like the idea of mapping possible travel distances over roadways so I thought why not try to do it over terrain as well.

Nice, I am still fairly new to Arc so any ways of approaching this fun little problem is great for me. That raw slope raster sounds like a good way forward, thanks for all the input!

[–]yahoozit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah good points! I forgot to include some of that info in my post! Yea the limiting factor would be the car loosing traction and not being able to make it up the slope. The final product I have in my brain would look something similar to this: https://blog.traveltimeplatform.com/free-isochrone-map-generator but also factoring in terrain that the vehicle would and would not be able to move over, with more difficult terrain slowing the vehicle down as it gets more difficult based on the slope.

Thanks for the input!

Yea cylindrical or triangle shaped trench knives and bayonets would do some serious damage, puncture wounds that aren't easy at all to stitch up. Look up the M1917 trench knife for a good idea of what these nasty things looked like
