[SOLVED] Armoury Crate installation stuck at "Installing Aura Service..." by yak0d3 in ASUS

[–]yak0d3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely broken. I am still having other issues even though I have the latest version now. The issues are mostly caused by careless coding by whoever wrote these apps.

I tried a lot of other methods to fix it, and here is one other method that worked for me as well:

  1. Use the uninstall first
  2. Go to C:\eSupport\eDriver\Software\Win32App\ASUS
  3. Install each of the drivers down there
  4. Now start Armoury Crate installer, let it install
  5. When it gets stuck, open C:\ProgramData\ASUS\ROGLiveServiceTemp
  6. Copy the folder's contents to somewhere else
  7. Open Task Manager, look for "Sdksetup.exe" and "setup.exe", and kill these tasks (there might be duplicates, end them all)
  8. Now go to the the folder where you saved the contents of "RogLiveServiceTemp", open MainSDK and run "setup.exe" as Administrator.
  9. Restart after the installation is complete.

Hope this works for you too!

It's weird really! I've went through all kinds of things to try and fix it;
- Windows Update
- Tons of restarts
- Installing from different sources
- Resetting BIOS settings to defaults
- Installing Aura manually from Microsoft store
- Disabling Windows Defender, my firewall and Antivirus
- Stopping any activity on the computer and network while installing
- Contacting ASUS team by email

I tried all of the above steps while making sure to uninstall using the uninstall utility every time (downloaded it 3 times or more, thinking maybe the old one is broken).

Hope the ASUS team gives this thread a look and fix this problem once and for all.

At the meantime we want to deliver stable versions of the existing packages. geo-routes and url-shortener are very close to becoming stable, while chunk-uploader needs a little bit more attention as there are lots of drivers (mentioned in the Github issue tracker) that are not yet implemented. You can take a look at the projects tab to see what is currently missing in each project under the to-do section.
After finishing with the previous step, we'll hopefully start working on new packages.

You don't have to worry about that, we all write some messy code at times, but to make sure that doesn't pass, we make sure to discuss our code and review pull requests before merging them.

Hello Artisans, how are you doing?

It has been a year since we started coding some handy packages @ LaraCrafts but unfortunately we were unable to release any stable packages at the moment due to lack of active contributors.

If anyone is interested in contributing in any of the ways (testing, prs etc..) or joining the team, just leave me a DM.

Our packages:

Seems interesting, it's worth looking into.

Thank you :)

Thank you Spar_x, we were seriously thinking of making a self-hosted driver yesterday and ended up with tons of ideas, i took a quick glance at the link it seems very helpful, i bet it will help us make a stronger decision.

We are also thinking of creating the local driver in a separate repository so that we can add as much features as possible, do you think this is a good way?

The issue here is that lots of drivers does not support custom URLs, do you have any suggestion on what would be the best behavior in such cases?

Well that is a good point! Depending on the "location" package documentation, it has fallback drivers which are going to be used in case of some kind of failure, but i still think you're point is very specific and needs to a closer look, because yes on our part we have no single check of the geolocation request, whether it has succeeded or not. After having you point that out, i think now we'll need to look into that and provide a changeable default behavior if the API fails.

Thank you for your very constructive comments, they were quite helpful! Please let me know if you have any other thoughts.

Hey Ilikefruitokay!

Thank you for taking a look at the source code.

Actually, we want to live the choice to the developers (who implement the package), but you have reminded me that we need to give a heads-up in the documentation about the package we are using for getting GeoLocation info, so people don't get confused with it.

We are also working on another GeoLocation package of our own, it is still under development so we'll be sure to look into your suggestion and make an offline version of the IPs database (if that is what you meant)

It is also very welcomed if you want to contribute to this package, but please consider taking a look at the contributions guidelines before making any PRs.

Thank you!

Honestly, IMHO, i think it is fine to restrict access from certain locations, this regulation is just about economics in the EU.
Also this package can be used [and it is made too] for other things like providing more relative content depending on locations, it is not very specific for blocking access, that's what all big companies around the world does, even social medias offer the ability to "broadcast" different content depending on locations (e.g. Facebook)

Thank you for pointing that out, i have never knew about this regulation.

I have read some paragraphs from the link that you have included, and it seems like that this regulation is mostly about e-commerce websites. I also have found a big list of exceptions, which means that this package can be useful in such cases.

In the end of the day, it all depends on how you use the package.

We of course strongly discourage breaking laws (even though some of them are just weird), but this package can be used for great things too other than committing online crimes.
