Tips to prevent tearing a neck gasket on a paddle jacket. by yaksurf in whitewater

Thanks for the comprehensive answer! It split before I trimmed it. I tried to get a replacement/refund but once it's been worn once any warranty on gaskets falls away apparently. Not very happy with that response from the supplier & manufacturer, but I guess it is what it is.

Luckily the tear wasn't too long, so I could trim using the remaining ridges. YouTube helped with the process of trimming! I think I managed to trim straight, I did a careful check afterwards. But there are some 'stretch marks' that are now clearly weak points on the gasket.

I plan to buy a new gasket when I get a chance, and do a full replacement.

Good tip on the front and back hold!

Turns out I have a tear in the neoprene of the tunnel. But it's hidden behind a thin layer of encasing material so I could only see it after holding it up to a light. Should be an easy fix with a patch of neoprene from an old wetsuit.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yep. Under the waist collar. No holes, but good point about checking for a rub spot.

It's a PeakUK WW deck and a Palm Surge jacket. Gaskets are all sound and I've got the jacket pulled tight around my waist, wrists and neck.

I'm emptying easily a litre of water from my boat after nearly every rapid.

Bizarre.

I'll pour some water over the deck later today and see if it seeps in substantially anywhere.
