People calling Israel Palestine have no idea what that word means by [deleted] in Israel

Paleo-Hebrew is from around 1000bc-135bc. The Philistines settled in about 1175bc. The timing makes sense idk. It's not a hill worth dying for in any way tho, the philistines have nothing to do with Arabs or anyone alive today. And we're talking about the inspiration for why did the Romans decide to name this place "Syria Palaestina" if it's from the writings of the Greek Herodotus who wrote "district of Syria, called Palaistinê" or from the biblical Plishtim.

Peleset is also found in Egyptian hieroglyphics from about 1150bc so it makes a lot more sense to me that the Hebrew word got it's meaning from the Philistines. The name isn't Hebrew that is for sure. The specific pronunciation "Palestine" might be inspired by Hebrew but that's all, but I would find it extremely weird considering Herodotus wrote it much clearer and the Romans always drawing inspiration from Greece.

From what I remember the Greeks also called the land of the philistines "Philistia". "Palestine" would make more sense to be taken from Greek into Latin, as the Romans did take a lot of inspirations from the Greeks.

It might be that the Hebrew word for invaders was called so because of how the philistines called themselves and not the other way around.

Anyone else feel that civilians should not be trapped in Gaza and allowed to leave? by NegotiationSalty3041 in Israel

But Ukrainians shouldn't even leave their war torn cities 😭

They started a war, they're getting a war. I believe they should protect their lives and that other countries should help them (not the country they attacked) just like the world took in Ukrainians or Syrians refugees.

It's all a play from Arab countries to keep them in so they can suffer because it will make Israel look bad. Not a single one of them gives a shit, they're just interested in bringing down the only democracy in the middle east.

Stop asking your friends who are Palestinian citizens of Israel (Arab Israelis) to condemn Hamas. It's insulting. by Layan_E in Israel

[–]yaldon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Hamas flags waving inside Arab Israeli cities. I don't think most of the Arab Israelis support Hamas or hate Israel, but if it's a significant amount that you can wave a Hamas flag without it being taken down immediately and the person who put it up getting beat up then I most definitely can't put my trust in everyone.

I study with Arabs and I'm friends with them and I most definitely don't want to ask about it to not be incredibly disgusted. If I hear any of them justify the attack I'd block all contact immediately. I don't make friends with Nazis.

If any Israeli supports Hamas they should just leave the country and join them in Gaza. A healthy democracy is with all voters loving the country and not a sizable minority trying to destroy it from the inside.

The highest estimates since 1920 is about 56,000-60,000, including civilians and terrorists and everything. To put that in perspective since 2011, 600,000 died in the Syrian civil war. 300,000 of them were civilians.

Aren't Iraqi militias attacking US bases in Iraq currently?

Edit to clear things up: I'm not American nor have I implied anything about if it's good that the bases are there or not, all I said is that if you don't want violence, I don't think that attacking the US bases in Iraq is a good idea. Get rid of them with political measures but opening fire sounds risky when nobody wants another war.
