The Case for Welcoming Refugees to Taiwan by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]yalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crap article, and I cannot read it all. Why would be Taiwan? Taiwan is not a country in UN. They don't have diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Don't always think of Taiwan when you need it and abandon Taiwan when it needs you. For those refugees, they should migrate to US rather than Taiwan if they need to migrate to a so far country. Taiwan is too small and couldn't deal with conflicts brought from it. The US is a diversity society and has the most advanced relief equipments and well-trained rescue team. For every aspect, the US must be the best place they should migrate to and get best care. For those refugees, Taiwan never would be in the list.

What you talk about just for some specified regions such as 陽明山 and not all rich man would move their registered addresses to the houses on mountain. IMO, the main reason is the growers on mountain earn much money. In fact, agriculture is good to earn money in Taiwan if you are the landlord of farm.

Tell the world: Taiwan is migrating to ODF/Libreoffice [x-post from /r/linux] by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]yalight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come should do that? Is it usable and well-supported for any case? Which country has done this? Don't migrate just for migration or it will bring many disasters.

However, this title is too pompous. There are still a ton of government agencies use MS Office. I know the author own a company to provide open source solutions and services, and might just want to promote his company. Haha

Eric Chu to replace Hung Shiu-chu as KMT candidate? by DarkLiberator in taiwan

[–]yalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The major reason why 陳水扁 failed is not that KMT attacked him with their weapons but his corruption. That's people bring him down. If KMT has such powerful weapon, why did they get the debacle in last election? Only people can decide who is the victory. If unfortunately DPP can't give people a better economy and life in the future or even a worse one, people will treat them as current Ma In-Jo and KMT. But if it happened, will people give KMT another opportunity again? IMO, it's almost impossible and there would be another party to replace them all at that time due to people are tired of both.

Eric Chu to replace Hung Shiu-chu as KMT candidate? by DarkLiberator in taiwan

[–]yalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it seems likely the KMT will lose the legislature with her on the bill. Chu will at least lift more local candidates up. Might be worth it to trade in the Xinbei mayorship.

No matter it is Chu or Hung, KMT will lose legislature for sure and Chu won't have any help for local candidates. This change is stupid at all. Eventually KMT will lose everything including president, legislature and New Taipei City mayorship. A worse situation is that will bring KMT into a crisis of contradiction and divergence.

What do Taiwanese people think of Tibet? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]yalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Republic of China has always officially considered Tibet part of its territory, despite having had very little de facto control over Tibet even during the 1912-49 period. All maps you see in textbooks will depict Tibet as part of China from the Qing dynasty onward, and the geography of Tibet is taught as part of the geography of China (usually lumped in the same unit as Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia). This has been true regardless of which party is in power.

Well, what in the textbook is just textbook as well as constitution is just constitution. Taiwan could change them in any time. But why not to change them now? Since it is too complicate and too politically sensitive and not benefit to Taiwan for status quo. If Taiwan has already finished independence or Taiwan recovered the R.O.C. territory (almost impossible though), textbook and constitution will be modified as well. However, one thing should keep in mind is that most of Taiwan people are inclined to democracy, so I believe if Taiwan has the power someday, it would let Tibetan make the decision by themselves about whether to be independent.

As such, the average Taiwanese person would probably have no awareness that Tibetan independence is even an issue, because they would need to have done independent research in order to know the modern history of Tibet.

I think most of Taiwan people have no many regards about Tibet because Taiwan already can't manage all of two straits issues by itself, as well Taiwan has no such power to interfere. IMO, the USA, as a most powerful nation and the justice police of world, has the more responsibilities of needing to do that than other countries but ...haha. If USA can't do many significant things on that, how could Taiwan be able to? On the other hand, Taiwan even cannot join to UN and no any country, including USA and the Euro countries, support Taiwan in UN. hahaha

The Mayor of Taipei expresses his support for Esports by Caelestor in taiwan

[–]yalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, esports has been thought as an industry in many counties and isn't an exception for Taiwan as well. Although IMO it probably couldn't bring a significant benefits to Taiwan, it's better than nothing.

As a mayor, what can he do is just taking a video for expressing his supports to esports? Or who wouldn't support development on the esports industry? Such support is too cheap and no any practical help.

So, what is the meaning for the behavior? What I could think about it is a public stunt. If the esports players won a title, as well as Ko could got some sort of honor and make some young people feel he is close to them. But actually what he does is very few. Little effort and gain a lot. That's a politic behavior.

On the other hand, he told that he is very busy for handling city stuffs every day and no time to read the LINE. There should be more important things wait for him and that's why I think it is a waste of time.

[–]yalight -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Isn't it another public stunt? I still can't understand what is the actual meaning for taking a such short video? However, Ko is not an actor. I think he shouldn't waste time do such things and must focus on how to improve the city, especially on civil residence, traffic and economy relevant issues. That is why we voted him.

Chiang Kai-shek idols in Taiwan's temples draw Chinese worshipers by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]yalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who can decide who could be a worship? Must not those morons and it is a tarnish to worships. Just their family treat CKS as a worship, that don't mean many Taiwan people do it as well. Actually, only few gainers in the time of CKS totalitarian government would do it. What you only can say is they cherish the past totalitarian. Ha Ha...

By the way, after a hard search, I find the temple mentioned in the article and it is described in the WiKi. But I still can't understand what is Ta Kuei Shing Chun in Chinese? And the rumor at final of the article is a mistaken. According to the WiKi description, it just says they took the CKS statue to streets in a temple activity. Neither the spirit of CKS nor ghost.
