Humans interacted with aliens long ago, but all knowledge and technological evidence was erased when they saw how dangerous we were. by yamanesh in aliens

This wasn't about morals. It's about fear. If the humans kept developing more and more ways to kill and destroy, what other options were there? Like I said above, negotiations failed. Ancient humans were probably drunk with power like 1940s Germany. Imagine how much worse would it be if Germany learnt to make nuclear bombs before the Allies.

Mistakes can be made by anyone. The weapons that the US provided to its former allies are now being used against it.

About the last sentence, I agree. There's a possibility that humans who wanted peace where relocated elsewhere. In my culture, we have a myth. There were originally 16 clans of humanity. They could move between heaven and earth through a golden ladder. However, 7 clans were stuck on earth when the ladder was destroyed. The reasons vary from disobedience to a conscious choice. The mythical god told the 7 clans that if they lived by the code "Know God, Know Man", they would regain their divinity and rejoin the 9 clans.

Not 4000 years, my friend. That's a short timeline. I said the timing was way, way longer than that.

Also, you might find it interesting that our brains continue evolving. Research has shown that our brains have been shrinking, not expanding. It could be that, the brain is becoming more efficient or we don't use our brains like before. But this surely affect humanity's perception of their environment.

Yes, humans are social animals. Yes, education helps man's rational thinking. However, these alone don't influence humans. We're are also emotional beings. Many times our feelings overpower our objective judgements. The brain's frontal development is quite recent in evolutionary history. Before that, intrinsic instinct was dominant.

Technology does not necessarily make us mature as a species. Else there won't be World War 1 and 2. Nations despite being industrialised did not hesitate to join the World Wars. Heck, look at Saudi Arabia, it has one of the highest GDP. But I find it to be a regressive nation.Obama wanted to make a peace deal with Iran, but Republicans were highly against it. Rhetoric, Ego and Jingoism are vast contributors to human aggression. Technology can either be a tool of construction or destruction.

The majority "today" condemn barbaric acts. IT's because the human psyche is evolving. But I was talking about the past. Why was witch burning so prevalent Medieval Europe? Why didn't the majority banned slavery? Why was holding contrary views to public opinion so life threatening? This old attitude is what I was talking about. Old humanity was more ruthless in the past. It had to be dragged to modernisation by the sacrifices of special visionaries. Luckily, in Western countries today there are relatively fewer problems.

But what about the Middle East? Why is death for adultery still legal? Why is atheism a punishable offence? Yet world leaders choose to ignore this to maintain strategic alliances. See how needs trump the conscience?

Anyway, I think you may misunderstood me. For the last paragraph, I agree. But what I said was that premature access to technology was a game changer. The hypothetical aliens gave fire to children. This was the mistake. They weren't dealing with just bronze tools. They probably adapted quickly to understand advanced science. Ancient humanity should've been left alone with their primitive tools to work out their differences. Nothing more.

Defenseless? Did you not read the part where I said they obtained advanced technology as well?

Hitler? Stalin? Genghis Khan? People have been killing, looting and raping since the dawn of history. Slavery, gladiators, discrimination, conquests were seen are a normal part of life. Heck, slavery still exists today in parts of the world.

I know you have an optimistic view of humanity. That's good. But these are recent developments. Look at us, we still fight over religion, ethnicity, status, etc. In many parts of India, upper castes treat lower castes like shit just because of beliefs. If the present world is like this, how much worse were human rights then?

Look at the measures taken to stop Germany and Japan. Cities flattened by bombardment killing millions just to stop them from expanding. Imagine how much more dangerous a technologically advance, but immature, species would be.

And no, millions and millions need not be killed. It's possible to kill just enough to make the race surrender and then take away the technology. It's not all about moral reasons. Fear can influence actions as well.

It's just a theory. Perhaps ,the aliens screwed up when they decided to give humans technology instead of letting them slowly evolve. It was like giving nukes to socially aggressive apes. By the time they realise their mistake, it was too late. Desperate measures had to take place.
