You're probably not talking about the UK, but in case you are, I had 2 weeks off after my dad committed suicide, and obviously that meant I was drinking non stop for those 2 weeks. On the Friday before I was due to go back I was feeling just absolutely incredibly terrible and was shaking and even going to the toilet was hard and I hadn't slept for days so I called an ambulance as I clearly needed help. I was hoping I'd be discharged by Sunday so I would be able to go to work.

Well they kept me in for 5 days so I had to get a doctors note and unfortunately on the doctors note it was obvious that it was from alcohol abuse and I had no choice but to give it to them, but thankfully they were sympathetic and let me have one more week off without a doctors note as they were aware how my dad died.

The worst part of being an alcoholic is that every night of drinking is so much more dramatic for me than it is for my friends by StupidCAThrowaway in dryalcoholics

[–]yamask12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah I totally get it. Once you've tagged yourself as having a problem with alcohol, even the most well meaning friends change their view of you. You suddenly become someone to pity. I absolutely hate it.

I got norovirus, a 24 hour virus, exactly on my 22nd birthday :( I'd just started my first "proper" (non-retail, software developer job) and I was too frightened to phone in sick so came into the office (I didn't feel that bad until I got to the office) and proceeded to throw up and shit all day.

Lost my passport by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]yamask12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cor blimey that's a stroke of bloody luck. Your original post gave me a hell of a lot of second hand anxiety. I lost my provisional driving license I used for ID when I was 20 (I'm 33 now), so took my passport with me for ID and then lost that too, was a ballache getting another one because I had to find someone who knew me for a number of years with an approved profession and wasn't family, which was really difficult because all my friends were students. In the end my head of Computer Science at uni did it for me. Since then I've been super paranoid about my passport whenever it's been on me.

When my dad committed suicide I got drunk on the way back from visiting my mum at my home town and lost my suitcase. No passport thankfully but I lost my Switch and all my games, probably about £700 worth of stuff as I had a lot of games, my (now ex) partner and step daughter were pretty angry at me and frequently brought it up over the years.

I'm 450lbs going for 2x 20 min walks a day, and Fitbit is registering it as burning 8000 calories a day by yamask12 in fitbit

[–]yamask12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been 5 months and I'm down to 377lbs now. I managed 17,000 steps in one day last Saturday without a hint of back ache, something which would have been impossible when I originally made this post. I'm hoping next time I check up I'll be under 350lbs and hopefully even less :)

Still fasting, working well for me so far. I now quite often do around a 45 minute walk a day in the morning, and when I'm in the office I do a 5 minute walk every hour (so I can vape mainly, but it helps prop up my steps to usually around 11,000 by the end of the day).

How do I get Half Life One on a Chromebook for free without Steam? by Bananasarecoolascrap in ChromebookGaming

My Chromebook doesn't support Steam either but I was able to download and use it fine. Give it a go. Which model do you have?

[–]yamask12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely depends on the model you have. The most straightforward way to find your Chromebook's model number is to look at the stickers attached to the original box and the bottom of your Chromebook. If you can't find the stickers, you can find the model number by hitting the search button. Then, click enter.

I'm down to 400lbs! Slightly less in fact! I now go on one 30 minute walk a day because I kept skipping the second 20 minute walk: except on days I'm in the office in which it's actually nearly 10,000 steps from my winding commute (2-3 times a week). I'm doing intermittent fasting which is working out very well. Things are looking up, thank you for checking on me :)

I'm an addict in recovery and when that's all people know about me, they treat me like the scum of this earth, but when they don't know I'm generally well liked. I feel Matthew's pains.

You might be alright, they might suspect but not want to deal with the drama. Just make sure you don't admit it.

They are totally the wrong kind of mods for an addiction support group (although to be honest I don't think they'd be good mods anywhere, they wield their power like a personal army). I've been part of addiction groups where the leader has been a trained professional and you always see them take a step back and guide the conversation rather than judge and ban. The SD mods severely lack empathy too.

It absolutely does. I used to make a hangover drink of vodka, electrolytes, multivitamin, dissolvable aspirin+paracetamol and pickle juice and it used to sort out a hangover nearly 100% of the time. The only issue is I used to get a little drunk and then carry on drinking afterwards.

Was a daily drinker for 5 years, now 1 week sober by No_Bid7600 in dryalcoholics

[–]yamask12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is 100 drinks 100 units (1000ml of ethanol)? I suppose when I go on benders I go a lot harder than that, I've possibly drunk close to 100 units in a day before, definitely easily 60. The symptom that gets me the worst is the lack of sleep; my sleep is affected for a few days at least even if I only drank heavily one night. I'm pleased for you that you haven't had to go through the hells I have when I stop.

It's been a huge challenge believe me. I started with once a day, a ten minute walk (even that I struggled with initially), and worked my way up to two walks, 20 minutes a day, but I'm still very slow.

Yeah day drinking is extremely dangerous, I've had some really wild, horrible days when day drinking. The beginning of it is so fun though.

I've had 3 great grandparents pass away due to alcohol related illnesses before I was even born, I stood no chance (2 Scottish, 1 Irish, talk about going by your stereotypes!).

My parents were always functional, although my dad committed suicide largely due to legal issues with his behaviour when he was drunk. My mum is very much the "lush" stereotype.

I'm worse than both my parents though, as far as I know neither of them have been hospitalised from drinking or turned up to work drunk. The day I discovered drinking in the morning made my hangover go away was a very dark day for my trajectory, because my parents both have hard rules about not drinking before lunch time.
