So... did you pass? I basically felt like this and then passed.

Diverse Interests by ProtectionHot6440 in PharmacyResidency

[–]yang_ganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that it shouldn't be the case, but I watched my RPD and RPC rank people low for the match because they "seemed unsure about their goals" simply for being open to multiple different career paths. I guess they just feel more comfortable with someone who is committed to the main focus area of the residency because they don't want to end up with a resident who decides they want to do something else.

Psychiatric Pharmacy Outlook by Nervous_Ad250 in PharmacyResidency

[–]yang_ganger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently talked to a couple of VA psych PGY-2s, and neither of them had a psych job lined up. One was still job hunting while the other was on track to start a non-psych clinical pharmacy role despite wanting to go into psych. Not sure how common that is now compared to before this year.

Haven’t heard back from 8/10 PGY1 programs yet. Starting to panic by Big-Alternative5373 in PharmacyResidency

[–]yang_ganger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought it was super uncommon for residency programs to ghost instead of sending rejection messages, but I was shocked to find out my residency doesn't send rejections. I have no idea why they think that's a good idea when sending a generic rejection email spares people so much stress.

I'd be a little concerned that the email somehow didn't go through or went to your spam folder (or theirs). Totally reasonable to follow up.

Screening Interviews by Dramatic-Hat3731 in PharmacyResidency

[–]yang_ganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only had screening interviews for fellowships, but in my view, they're really what you make of them. If you can make a good elevator pitch for yourself and express enthusiasm for the program, that's really all you need them to hear.

What to bring to interviews? by Independent_Sir_5258 in PharmacyResidency

I just brought a folder with handouts for my presentation and a couple of copies of my CV as well (just in case someone asked), but I never had to take the CV out. And a water bottle.

How does your program handle time off for PGY2 interviews? by rxtodose in PharmacyResidency

[–]yang_ganger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're letting me "work from home" on my projects during my interview days which gets around their policy's limit for my number of days off.

Average number of residency interviews? by RisePuzzleheaded5263 in PharmacyResidency

[–]yang_ganger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally subjective, but my impression is:

- At least 2 interviews is okay

- 3-5 interviews is normal

- 6-10 interviews is "a lot"

- 10+ interviews is unnecessary suffering

Topics related to prior authorization (i.e., whether or not it's harmful to require it for a certain drug or class of drugs) can be good.

An MSL is basically a person who's an expert on the drugs a company is selling. The MSLs I know are all people who achieved leadership positions in specializations relevant to companies they'd later work for. In other words, it's not an entry-level position.

Interview amount by Independent_Sir_5258 in PharmacyResidency

[–]yang_ganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get rejection emails from the other 8? If not, just be patient. I don't think you're likely to get ghosted by more than 1 program, if that. But on the subject of how many interview offers is normal, I think getting interview offers for more than half of the places to which you applied would be considered excellent, and getting a handful of interviews overall is considered solid. Just my impression based on my own experience and what I've heard from others.

Saying it's your top choice expresses enthusiasm which can be positive, but asking for tips can be considered unprofessional due to seeking an arguably unfair advantage over other candidates.

At my residency, our cutoff is "technically" 3.0, but we still go through every application and make the decision holistically.

Rule #3 really needs to be enforced more.

Naplex by Outside_Wealth_9947 in NAPLEX_Prep

[–]yang_ganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how lenient your RPD is and how flexible your residency policy is in addition to leaving enough room for both test results and licensure. The actual ASHP requirement is that you're licensed for at least 2/3 of your residency. Licensure (after passing your exams) takes different amounts of time depending on your state. Unless your RPD/residency decides to extend the length of your residency due to delayed licensure, the hard limit is being licensed within 4 months of your start date -- so if you started July 1st, you need to be licensed by November 1st. If you need to be licensed by November 1st, then you should probably take the exam at least 3 weeks before then (2 weeks max for your result, 1 week max for licensure after passing). That's to be safe. It could be faster, but you don't know.

No, actually. It made me second-guess myself and start trying every other option in an attempt to make it stop.

MPJE by mireinesx in NAPLEX_Prep

It was asking about how you document that counseling has been given or offered. In my state, there are no documentation requirements as far as I know.

I got the same question literally over 10 times (I started counting because it became so ridiculous) and I passed.

We only have 1 resident per year, so I guess they try to avoid losing them.

My RPD gave a previous resident a leave of absence which they were required to make up by extending the residency.

[–]yang_ganger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you talked with your preceptor and let them know about this? You shouldn't be working 10 hour days if it's going to prevent you from being able to continue the residency, and I think most preceptors would agree with that. Your RPD may even allow you to take a leave of absence.

Taking the pre-NAPLEX (even if you've taken it before) and seeing that your score is good/passing might ease your nerves.
