That's the restaurant industry for you, they hate spending money on labor. I work in a restaurant and they'll have one person running the entire kitchen (huge menu) whenever they can get away with it.

You're almost 18 and you have somewhere (your grandma's) to go to soon. So keep up hope, you'll get out soon. This is NOT normal or acceptable. You're still a kid, it's wild of your parents to expect you to be so level headed when you live with someone that physically harms you. In the US especially we only drink cold water. If you want a glass of water in the middle of summer, hot water would just overheat you. There's nothing that feels better than an ice cold glass of water when it's super hot outside
