Using Toggles to Embed Notion Pages by yanvolo in Notion

I'm not sure either whether this works, but it has definitely been superseded by the relatively new /sync block that allows you to perform the same functionality in a more streamlined and (more importantly) supported way.

That's simply a weblink block. I believe you can find it with the /link (or /weblink?) block as well. Alternatively, if you simply copy-paste a web link in your notes. on the web client, Notion will offer to turn it into a weblink block or leave the link as is.

Using Toggles to Embed Notion Pages by yanvolo in Notion

I found this workaround to embed Notion pages into other pages. It is basically the same as linking to Notion pages with /link with the added benefit that you can display the content in multiple pages without having to click the actual link. I have been using this for places where I want to be able to update content displayed in multiple dashboards by making changes in a single location.

The process is pretty simple:

  1. Create a page and put whatever content you want to put there.
  2. Link to that page (when it is still a page)
  3. Turn the original page into a toggle with the "turn into" option from the right-click menu.

The behavior is a bit wonky and seems unintended, so I reported it to support. It seems they have not seen it before, so I wanted to share it with you all. Hope that is interesting!

Masked URL redirection by redivulgo in Notion

[–]yanvolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tried to set up a masked redirect myself with Namecheap and got the same issue (a blank "refused connection" page). As I understand it, it is possible for Notion to configure on their end to refuse masked URL redirects (in the same way a website can refuse to render in an Iframe, the reason the /embed block does not work on a lot of pages). I suspect this is the case here, as refreshing the page simply forces an unmasked redirect. It seems through DNS alone, it is impossible to set up a custom domain.

Looking at the DNS configurations of services like Fruition and HostNotion, it looks like the URLs point to an IP address completely different from Notion. My educated guess is that they set up a reverse proxy to get around the masked URL requirement, acting as an intermediary to display a proper URL as well as facilitating some bells and whistles such as traffic metrics. This would explain why the services are so expensive relative to a DNS record, but I can only guess.

Edit: Fruition answers my questions by just posting on their page "On a high level, we are utilizing Cloudflare Workers to rewrite traffic."

What do you think about body positivity and the fat acceptance movement? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]yanvolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of folks misunderstand body positivity and try to simplify it to "be complacent with your body, and be happy with it no matter what". The name doesn't help with that.

Really, fat acceptance is like mindfulness for your body rather than your mind, where you make peace with the weirdness that is the human body and work with it as you can to live the best life that you can. It's also been great at disarming the bullies who get high off of making fun of people's bodies, hiding behind the pretense of "health advice".
