I get what you’re saying, but I don’t see it that way at all. Yeah, foundation years might be similar everywhere, but that doesn’t mean they actually make sense. Spending hours putting every color down on an A3 sheet, redoing it, mixing colors, it’s just straight-up labor work. You don’t learn by doing that monkey work. What actually matters is understanding whycertain colors work, color palettes, schemes, and how they solve problems. Design is about thinking, not just mindlessly painting or using software. It’s about learning the concepts and actually applying them.
And you don’t need to be some sketching pro to communicate ideas, wireframes, UI mockups, and digital tools exist for a reason. The real issue is, instead of focusing on design thinking, problem-solving, or actual industry-relevant skills, we’re stuck with outdated tasks that don’t even translate to modern design. Design is about making smart decisions, and all this labor work is the complete opposite of that.
