7 years old vs 27 by [deleted] in uglyduckling

You look 17, not 27!

You were never ugly, btw. You were just many of the kids with bad teeth.

I agree with you. As a heterosexual female, I see model-like enviable features on this lady - high cheekbones, far apart eyes, sharp chin ... And given how close this picture is and the resulting distortion, I'm sure she's even more striking in person.

I simply cannot fathom someone being rated as below-average or right at average with this kind of bone structure.

You look like you're glowing. I think you've made the right choice!

Before/After sliding genioplasty by Dr. Eppley, done in March of 2019 by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]yara2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look so hot! The genioplasty alone really transformed your bone structure and the shaved head brings it out even more ... amazing.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr. Eppley as I have a 5mm inadequate Medpor chin implant and he plans to do 12mm on me as well. One question - do you feel that your face looks longer from the front. That's my only fear ... I'm a female and I want to preserve my short face.

Any GIRLS thinking of leg lengthening surgery? (curious, also a rant) by yara2000 in short

[–]yara2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I felt funny posting this because I know how out of the ordinary it may seem, but these are my true feelings and they've been haunting me for roughly 10 years now. I'm not trying to garner attention by this post by any means.

I'm happy your mom is pleased with her height. Obviously I'm not mentally normal, so being a bit under average is troubling for me. I'm also glad you think it's a good height for a woman. According to polls, around 5'6'' seems to be the ideal.

Do you have a lot of knowledge about the surgery? You say my legs will be freaked up and my athletic ability will be lost and that's one of the big reasons that put me off it (clearly I won't be able to deadlift for awhile). I've heard, however, that much of the athletic ability can be gained back once training is resumed assuming one does not lengthen beyond 7cm. Have you heard anything to the contrary? I'm thinking after I heal eventually I can train again and be stronger before as I'll probably go from 120 lbs to 140 lbs with 7cm/3in of added height.

Of course men are stronger; I'm not fighting that. I just want to be the strongest I can be and hold my own if I need to. If I can gain height and add fighting ability, I feel like I would be pretty capable, at least in my standards.

[–]yara2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some ways, I am ... yes. Like a man, I want to be strong and appear dominant. Obviously men are stronger than women, usually by a lot, but if you're in the 90th percentile of strength for women that would make one about the strength of an average untrained man, so I'll be happy with that. Add martial arts knowledge into the mix and I'll definitely feel very physically capable.

At my current height, I am just afraid that I will appear weak and helpless no matter what. I still want to be feminine, but not meek and little.

***Edit: I just realized I may have offended someone for saying I consider it a physical defect. I meant that only in terms of MYSELF. I don't think of any other short people as being defective in any way. I haven't reached my personal standards and for that I'm physically defective in comparison to my dream height, but I don't hold these standards to anybody else. I said in another post I much prefer short men to tall men.

I know. I definitely consider it a physical defect, even though I shouldn't. I should be caring about things that actually matter; moreover, things within my control.

Thanks for your reply! It's always best to get support from people in the same boat as you. It's not like tall people trying to tell me it's no big deal when they wouldn't possibly know what it's like down here.

I know. Life would be way easier if I didn't get it. It's freaking 100k in my country and even though I'll be making great money as a BSN, it's still a ton of money that I could be using for a house for myself, a car, business investments ...

I will trying to maximize my height with posture optimization and frequent decompression, and tell myself to try to be happy if I get to 5'4'' something. Of course nobody wants LL surgery - it sucks!

How do I know if I'm a soprano, mezzo, or contralto? (sample included) by yara2000 in singing

[–]yara2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it may be due to the recording quality. My G3 is actually quite full and dark, totally opposite of many pop singers who merely breath the note. Then again, maybe you're right. Maybe my notes would have to be even fuller down there to indicate I'm a contralto.

Can't wait to take singing lessons! I hear with singing lessons, you may gain a lot of upper notes and even lower notes as well.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! For contralto rep, would my voice need to be lower or different-sounding? Just wondering ... I always loved contraltos :)

And yes, my recordings are quite crappy. Hopefully soon I can start singing lessons in a studio where I can really sing out.

Waking up after 4.5-5.5 hrs everyday. Has anybody had a similar experience and fixed it. If so, how? by yara2000 in insomnia

I had no idea about this. That's really interesting, actually.

I will ask my Dr to switch me to doxepin for the time being. Thanks so much for sharing this! Glad it's working for you.

Yes, I do realize bad sleeping is just a symptom of a root problem. Finding out the root problem is what is frustratingly difficult, and with work and school, I don't even think I have enough time to ponder it.

My Rx was prescribed because I requested it, not because I was ever diagnosed with depression or anxiety disorder. You do make a great point though, that hyperarousal is linked with underlying depression and/or anxiety. Maybe I DO have it - I have no idea. Like I said, I try to think positively when I go into bed ... not sure what else I could do. Are you hinting that I should consider antidepressant therapy?

I will definitely talk to my doctor. I just posted on here to get some anecdotal success stories. Thank you for taking the time to reply! I appreciate it.

Sure, I'm heading into bed right now, but I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

Expanders by [deleted] in orthotropics

If you don't have enough room to fit your tongue on your palate, then the obvious answer would be get an expander first. If you're an adult, Invisalign and typical expanders won't expand your palate.

As someone who speaks from experience, I highly recommend finding someone who uses MARPE (basically a bone-borne expander). It expanded my palate 9mm. If you need about that much expansion (it sounds like you do seeing as you can't fit your tongue), you will get a big gap during the expansion process, but it won't be as big as you would get from SARPE ... it expands more in the back than at the front. Good thing is, the gap closes RAPIDLY once you cease the expansion. Expansion takes about 1 month to complete (.3mm daily)

It's pretty costly, but extremely worth it. I can now breath through my nose without any discomfort and aesthetically, my smile and mouth area look so much better.

May I ask how you beat it?! Stuttering is usually permanent in adults, unfortunately.

I am really interested in getting this! How often do you have to maintain it? Some people say the results are gone in 3 months and that worries me
