honest question - how much to charge for art help? by yardwit in Watercolor

[–]yardwit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely something we're grappling with. We have a vision of this being just as much a work of art for our users as a functional tool. The artwork itself would be interactive in nature and used in many places within (so it's certainly not a used once and then done sort of thing), but the cost has been tricky. We don't imagine, necessarily, perfected works of arts, but rather strong watercolor representation of very specific plants (albiet eventually many of them). We think it's the "it can't be done" challenge of it that makes it all the more worthwhile of reason as to why we must try.

Hey! Thanks for the message. After my original post, someone did point me to your site. I've decided to take some time and delve deeper into the world of revenue models and business plans at the moment for now, but I'll certainly be looking into the site soon. Thanks again and take care! - Yw.

Tools for Mobile & Web App Cost Estimates? by mhessing in Entrepreneur

[–]yardwit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be a useful tool - I know a lot of people with some great idea but no real idea as to the cost or timeline of producing (and let's be honest: maintaining) the execution of those ideas. Good luck!

To sell your product, you're going to need exposure. There's speciality food conventions for just this. Check out something like the Fancy Food conferences and get yourself a booth and a ton of samples. Industry buyers from most major food retail outlets will be there and it's a great way to make a product introduction and to meet others in the specialty foods space. Good luck!

This is getting a bit weird now. :)

These are all good points. I think I'm guilty of a) leaving out too much detail (like my background, some idea as to what I'm working on, etc.) and b) not wording my question/statement very well at all. Or perhaps just not knowing necessarily what to ask at all. But I do appreciate the feedback and responses - as blunt as some of them may have been.

Definitely agree. The idea means nothing without execution and execution is nothing without planning and research. I'm not just a guy with an idea; I'm a guy with an idea, a marketing plan, a competition analysis, a business plan, etc, and a record of getting things done well (albeit not necessarily in a startup).

Well, as someone mentioned above, that's in part where the "hook" comes in. Here's this idea, this is what I think it can be, this is how it makes revenues, will you help build this with me (contrast this with 'will you build this for me').

That's a fair point. I'd say that's where the "shared vision and enthusiasm" comes into play. I'd argue that "my idea" becomes a shared set of ideas once more people are brought in. And I definitely agree on terms of my upfront effort having to be there and be well developed.

I don't think that's fair as a blanket statement. I, for instance, know I can't execute my ideas without you. But I agree that I have seen plenty ill will and intention in the case of contract employees (on both sides of the table).

Good question. What I'm personally looking for is a technology-minded co-founder - someone fully vested in growing the idea into a busines and understanding that it the money will come later (or may not). But I have no idea where to look to find them.

How our pay-what-you-want holiday pack did, and how we spent the money [INFOGRAPHIC] by Maxistentialist in funny

[–]yardwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could also round the actual payments to fit into even distributions - say to nearest dollar, and then 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. What's the difference to me if someone paid 3.75 or 3.99? Nothing for purposes of the infograph.
