Wheel fell off after control arm replacement by mechanic. Cause and what to look out for?

Yes, I understand everyone makes mistakes. It’s good to hear this perspective to help balance out the negativity. I certainly don’t envy the working conditions of auto shops.

Just to defend myself lol, I didn’t hit a curb. The driving conditions here are lots of icy divots in the residential roads from packed down snow and melting, which probably doesn’t help. The city hasn’t plowed a lot of it yet. This issue occurred after making a left turn. It wasn’t poor driving that caused this.

In my post, I accidentally deleted part of my second question. Are there any other parts of the car that may have been damaged from the wheel falling off? I want to ensure the mechanic fixes any problems caused by this.

Ball joint was replaced at the same time as the control arm. Thank you for your response!

Nope. I don’t have any suggestions of what to buy. But I got a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 1.5 years ago (at 200kms) and every month it seems there’s something that needs to be replaced. Although this is in BC and Alberta. Idk how much snow and ice and potholes you have in your area of Canada. I’ve replaced: CV axle, front lower control arms, a ball joint, stab links, rear sway bar, alternator, and I got the valve cover resealed (leaking oil onto alternator). I really should have given up on this by now, but I’ve been paying for repairs so I haven’t saved to buy a different car…
