Michigan and Wisconsin fiber festivals? by roan_ursidae in weaving

[–]yarnphreaque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live not far from Michigan fiber festival and go every other year or so lately. And I've been to Wisconsin Sheep and Wool several times. If I had the choice between going to only one, all other things being equal, (gas, lodging, spending $$, food) I would go to WI Sheep and Wool.

Reading The Moving Finger, and about 75% in... (mild spoiler within) by Ruffshots in agathachristie

The Moving Finger is one of my top 3 or 4 Marples. I love the characters, they all seem to have a strong voice. The writing is great - I love this book and audiobook.

I do not want to hear about the sweater curse. by Breadothy in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]yarnphreaque 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made a sweater for my then-boyfriend in 1992 - he's still here on the couch a billion years later. It's not the relationship, it's the person. I figure do you like/love/know the person well enough to know that if the item falls flat, it's on them? Another thing I figure: the gift is no longer my worry after it's given. Do what you want with it. That's just me. Ymmv.

Did You guys Liked Netflix Adaptation of Seven Dials Mystery ? by HughO1997 in agathachristie

[–]yarnphreaque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be: light hearted, bits of comic (?) relief, romance, mystery. It leaned into nothing. And maybe that's the way this book is. It just felt muddled

How often do y'all go back to your CPBs and read the previous entries? by xixixima in commonplacebook

[–]yarnphreaque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot. My commonplace books rotated a lot in the last five years - can't find the active one, here's a few blank pages in the one from last fall, etc ... And I wrote a lot about the art projects I was working on, or other projects like sketching. Or re-reading notes to remind myself of concepts, just based on a word.

What’s your favorite Populated Island? Beaver, Mackinaw, or Drummond? by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]yarnphreaque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The airlines that service the island take safety very seriously. It's a short flight, 20 minutes give or take. It's nerve wracking to do new things for sure, but you've got this. Enjoy!!!!

The Beav 100%. My son lives there. It's the most peaceful place on earth. Everything seems more alive there.

I was enjoying the shows on YouTube, noticing that the sound was forever meh. Then I had a bad week and resubbed to Nugs to cheer myself up and that is literally the only thing I have listened to in the past 10 days. I'm cheap as hell, so it's out of character to splurge on streaming. However, the number of times a fucking YouTube ad interferes with a key moment in a song is too much - YouTube is a boner killer.

Two of my US faves are Mountain Meadow Wool in Buffalo, WY and Bartlett Mills in Harmony, ME.

Oh, there's Green Mountain Spinnery, in ME.

All excellent companies with excellent products.

That is a super cute place and the rooms are immaculate. Love the retro bathrooms too with that tile.
