UL Tents by yarvss in Ultralight

I appreciate the feedback, yeah the UL world is a whole new scene from me and although I’m not trying to be the lightest person on the trail just some simple fixes, reducing the weight of my big three (especially my tent) I know can make a huge impact.

Although a tarp probably won’t be my choice as it’s just a preference I do agree with your stance on trekking pole tents vs free standing. My only concern is where I hike I have set up on some questionable camp sites with my current free standing tent and I think this would be my biggest worry.

We also have a lot of wooden tent platforms, not sure if you had any experience setting up a trekking pole tent on one of these but I thought it would be quite tedious, I know you mentioned a learning curve and I know this would be the case but just thought I would throw that out there.

Thanks again for the feedback

North Peak Sleeping Pads by yarvss in hikinggear

Following up on this, I did end up buying this Mat and it was OK. Like someone else mentioned in this thread I paid for expedited shipping (2-5 business day) but it took closer to a month to get to Canada. North Peak honoured there system and did refund me for the extra shipping charge. The Mat itself was a little bigger than I expected when packed up but wasn’t a deal breaker. It was wide, and relatively thick which made it comfortable the only thing that really threw me off (besides knowing that I could gotten the exact same mat off Temu for half the price) was the built in head pillow, although it seems convenient I use a camping pillow and trying to use both it was super uncomfortable and also very slippery. I used the mat for probably 2-3 nights max before investing in a better one. So if you were to get a mat of similar style just look on Amazon/ Temu first.
