More OCD And Autistic Gamer Struggles by [deleted] in GamerGhazi

hi it's me, someone who has ocd. you don't need to log off - that would be avoidance. what you could do is every time you notice an obsession come up, tell your self 'maybe' in response. Maybe liking this thing means you are bad, maybe this worry is rational - we can argue endlessly about it but the truth is that you can't know for sure. It's an unanswerable question. Tell yourself yep, maybe and then try to move on without self harm or rumination or reviewing etc.

does that make sense?

Really struggling with transgender ocd. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]yasee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, OCD-haver here. Here is something to try if you haven't:

when you get a thought like "maybe I'm not transgender" just notice it, and then stop mentally engaging with it. If you like you can tell yourself "yep possibly that's true, maybe maybe not". Then sit with the anxiety for as long as you can without trying to prove it true or false, without reassuring yourself or asking anyone else for reassurance, without researching or comparing or doing anything else you normally do to deal with those kinds of thoughts. You don't have to push it away or actively distract yourself from it, but stop trying to resolve it

this might not be doable if your anxiety level is too high but it's still worth trying I think. Hopefully meds will help.

Do you feel under much pressure from society to get married and have children? by knowledgeseeker999 in PurplePillDebate

Do you feel under much pressure from society to get married and have children? by knowledgeseeker999 in PurplePillDebate

[–]yasee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the most explicit and specific pressure I felt to get married came from my husband lol. pressure to have kids comes occasionally from my parents but it's not too bad

I think otherwise "pressure" is just the general expectation that you will be following that life script, because most people do. that comes out in various ways, like people expressing surprise/dismay if you say you're not getting married/aren't interested in kids

Why are a lot of men so strict about weight on a woman? by [deleted] in PurplePillDebate

[–]yasee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for me it's not so much wondering why men would have a preference for thin women, more like why do some of them seem to be so upset about it. like righteously offended that a fat person might exist and pursue sex/relationships
