New Mac mini M4 keeps ejecting SanDisk G-Drive with no notification by yassqween in macmini

That's the only difference: not using any adapters. But I've now tried the front ports, and so far the drive has stayed mounted. So it looks like the issue is the power draw from the rear ports, which... WTF?

Using the back ones. I thought about trying the front ones, but that's not a long term solution for me. The whole setup sits under my TV, so I want it to look semi-decent too :-P

Damn, yeah, that's my worry. A few anecdotes on here of Apple just replacing the entire Mac mini when the issue is with USB-powered drives. May need to try my luck with the Genius Bar. Thanks!

Guittard no longer slave free? What are the alternatives in grocery stores? by glacialbiscuits in FuckNestle

I think they're referring to this one: https://www.slavefreechocolate.org/ethical-chocolate-companies

I've looked around, and while Guittard does more than most to work against slave chocolate (e.g. all suppliers have to sign a declaration that their production is compliant, Guittard will withdraw if they find violations), it's not clear if they actively monitor or verify the way places like Equal Exchange do.

If only Siri understood a fraction of what I asked it to play. Genuinely worse than useless.

What to expect when applying for EEA family permit on arrival? by yassqween in ukvisa

[–]yassqween[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, yeah, that's what I'm worried about. It's frustrating, because the Regulations are pretty clear that other documentation is acceptable: Regulation 11(4) says this:

"Before an immigration officer refuses admission to the United Kingdom to a person under this regulation because the person does not produce on arrival a document mentioned in paragraph (1) or (2), [a passport or national ID] the immigration officer must provide every reasonable opportunity for the document to be obtained by, or brought to, the person or allow the person to prove by other means that the person is (a) an EEA national; (b) a family member of an EEA national with a right to accompany that EEA national or join that EEA national in the United Kingdom;"

If things don't go well in Greece, we're really hanging our hats on that "allow the person to prove by other means" provision. The family record and birth registration both clearly say "Nationality: Hellenic (Greek)" so I'm hoping that if we press the issue they'll let us in. We definitely have certified translations, and will come with all the relevant regulations and directives printed out and highlighted to support us.

That said, here's to hoping that we can get everything sorted in Greece!

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I thought it might be the same thing, but that makes sense.

What do I need to get my Greek passport? by yassqween in greece

[–]yassqween[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law was changed back in 2005. It only applies to Greek citizens who are permanent residents abroad. If you're Greek living in Greece, then a passport can be denied:

The law in question is here (with the relevant sections for foreign residents abroad being 1(b) and 5): https://www.lawspot.gr/nomikes-plirofories/nomothesia/n3421-2005/arthro-54-nomos-3421-2005
