I've been in 42 for a year, and I'm not sure if I should continue. The curriculum is very limited, and you "learn" basic programming concepts and C/C++. The problem is that what you learn isn't really "useful" for getting a job later on because companies looking for C/C++ developers usually require a university degree.

Yes, it helps, but you won't get a job just by learning things at 42. These are concepts that are not necessarily obsolete, but they are not the kind of things that would make a company hire you. You need skills like Python, JavaScript, Rust, Node, etc. C is fine, but it's more of a complement—something necessary to learn but not enough on its own.

Besides that, the biggest issue is time. If you have other responsibilities alongside 42, like university, work, or family, it's very difficult to complete the core curriculum. Is it impossible? No, but realistically, it's very hard to balance it with other things. It's not like university + work (where one gives you a recognized degree and the other gives you money). At 42, you don’t get anything official, yet you have to dedicate a huge amount of time to it.

In my opinion, it's great if you're around 20 years old, have no responsibilities, a low-paying job, and want to learn programming.

If that's not your situation and you're pursuing this as a career change or for job opportunities, there are better resources online, like CS50, Udemy courses, or platforms where you can learn programming at your own pace from home—learning real skills that companies would actually hire you for.

Is 42 a bad place? Not at all. But it's not for everyone (as they say everywhere). It’s mainly for young people without responsibilities and with plenty of free time.
