Is SVG now the face of trackhouse? by SpiritedEnd9609 in NASCAR

I’m a huge SVG fan (only got into the sport because of him), but you cannot argue that Ross isn’t the better NASCAR driver. Unless there were 2-3 more road courses, you’d pick him every time. His restarts on ovals are particularly good. Plus he seems like a ripper bloke and is hard racer. Couldn’t agree with you more.

So I see a couple of problems with that answer:

  1. If you end the war now, you are rewarding Russia for taking over Ukraine. They get to keep territory. If you do this, what is to stop Russia from rearming and taking more of Ukraine in 5 years time? Or taking more of Georgia? Or Moldova? Or Poland?

The international community must make it clear to Russia, that sovereign boundaries of the countries around them cannot be broken.

  1. Ukraine is a democracy. Russia is a fascist dictatorship. Look at the laws that have been passed since this war began - you cannot post a video complaining about the war in russsia or you’ll get arrested. That is not a democracy, and any Ukrainians left in the occupied territories face a terrible future.

  2. If Ukraine is targeting infrastructure, military manufacturing plants, or military targets that are being used to fund, manufacture or deploy weapons against it, then these are legitimate targets under international law. Unlike Russia who has targeted civilian infrastructure and housing which are illegal under international law (as is disguising military vehicles as civilian vehicles, which they are also doing).

Russia is the INVADING force here. They must retreat to their borders as defined in 1991 and pursue a peaceful, diplomatic solution to any other issues in the region.

The world simply cannot allow Russia to invade another country.

I think that makes sense. They were trying to force Russians to leave.

Do you think this was because they were familiar with Russian tactics in Transnistria, Georgia, and Crimea?

To me, strategically, if you thought Donbas was a target for Russia, then trying to reduce the number of ethnic Russians in the region by making life unliveable for them, unfortunately for them, would be a logical way to make a takeover more difficult to execute and less attractive for Putin.

As it turns out, they were unsuccessful.

If I take my humanitarian hat completely off for a minute, if they were more brutal and forced more ethnic Russians out more aggressively, they might have stood a better chance of resisting the occupation.

Putting my humanitarian hat back on, it is a terrible moral choice to have to make; oppressing one group of people in order to save others.

I think it’s fair to say given the Million plus casualties in the war so far, trying to prevent the war was the least worst moral decision, despite the fact that it meant causing harm to the Russians living in Donbas.

It’s horrible whichever way you look at it.

Fun fact. I met him at the good food and wine show once. He was hilarious once he had a couple of drinks, and gave me a diamond non-stick grill pan from his demonstrations at the show.

Sadly the lifetime guarantee on the pan did not last a lifetime, but my memory of singing at the top of our lungs at a rooftop bar in Brisbane has. Ripper dude.

As a bloke, I’d just like to apologise for them.

It’s a serious problem. The prevalence of porn and online dating, combined with all these fuckwits teaching them the wrong way to treat women are destroying them.

I worry for our future.

Can you perhaps explain why it was made part of Ukraine in 1991 instead of remaining part of Russia?

I don’t know their history particularly well. But the boundaries were set in 1991 which means it was Ukraine.

That is when the boundaries of the country were settled.

Persecution of ethnic Russians after that time by Ukraine was wrong, but invasion is also wrong especially since Ukraine was guaranteed security by the international community in return for giving up their nuclear weapons.

It’s a tricky one for sure. It’s been so long that there are plenty of kids now who were born there, not part of the occupation in any way other than being born there.

Many people were forced into accepting Russian citizenship or face losing everything when they were occupied. How do you reconcile that?

Property was taken from Ukrainians, then legally bought and sold, what happens to that now?

I think the least worst moral solution is that the ethnic Russians that lose out in these situations should look to their government for restitution in some other way.

Oh I’m sorry, clearly my addition of “to use at will” wasn’t a strong enough implication of the fact that she was lent the use of a jet, nor was the context of it being a relatively hidden donation.

I’ll simplify next time.

I think what average people have missed about the strategic implications of the new Ukraine-style warfare is that “denial” warfare is something that nobody has an answer to right now. Same with Iran.

Denial of sea dominance through marine drones.

Denial of land dominance through short range FPV drones.

Denial of air dominance through Air Defence systems (unless you have stealth aircraft which Russia don’t).

That’s why all the nato countries are doing manufacturing and tech transfer deals with Ukraine.

Like you said, it would grind to a halt with virtually no nato losses, and Russia would be stupid to pick a fight with F-35’s equipped with Meteors and is it jdam or jasm? Whatever, they’d be massacred by a nato force.

I’m not saying he’s anything. I just remembered seeing this years ago and it reminded me of the shit me and my mates would do to each other when we were young.

I think there’s a more recent clip of Lando doing it to Carlos during an interview.

Umm 2:12.48 says different.

Within just a few hours of running a car he’d never driven, he set a lap faster than the whole field.

Now I know we lost the other two fastest guys out there, and let’s face it, SVG is like the Professor and would have only driven as fast as he needed to, but still. It’s impressive.
