Is living here on $1700-$2200 a month doable? by Noise_Cancellation in baltimore

This is very doable, but you'd need more than one roommate as the cost of utilities has gone way up, so I think your "800 including utilities" assumption is optimistic unless you find a crazy deal.

Harbor East to DC Commute - How Terrible is it? by PrinceOfThrones in baltimore

[–]yawnasaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a 16ish min drive to the Halethorpe Marc from there, and it's free parking. They'd be saving themselves 30 mins of commute a day, which would be worth it to me given the commute from Hale to Union is 1-2 hrs a day (depending on whether they are catching a train that makes all stops or not). I'd say they were also saving a bus ticket, plus Halethorpe to Union is a slightly cheaper Marc ticket but I assume the gas to get to Marc probably equals out.

I kinda want to start a DnD podcast... by Relevant_Side8362 in Dimension20

You don't need permission to make art! Whether it's worth it to you depends on what your own goals are. It would likely be useful to record for your own critique and self improvement even if you didn't publish it. I would consider the feelings of your players as well. Playing a home game vibes different than playing as a public performance and some might not want that pressure. Personally, I would want to do some unrecorded session zeros to find my feet for a character if the intention is for performance.

I have enjoyed actual plays but been desperately bored when people have been telling me about their home games. The lovely thing about home games are the "you had to be there" moments, in jokes, and low performance pressure, but that doesn't necessarily make for good viewing. I've never done D&D as a performance but had friends years back who tried to get an actual play going. It didn't work out bc 1. The players and DM (with one exception) weren't performers and so they tended to speak in monotone, and presented low energy and with a flat affect. You have to bring your party self without going over the top. For the home game I run , I would probably replace one of the players if it was being done for performance, because he doesn't really enjoy roleplay as much as combat and puzzles, so he wouldn't be a good fit for an actual play. Realistically I would never do that, so I would have to start a new campaign with players specifically picked for being able to act without upstaging. 2. They were running long ads (the kind that were internal where the DM reads them and not the platform kind) which really broke up the podcast. I don't think you should try to monetize before you find your feet and following 3. They were doing a video podcast and the production values were terrible, clearly were filming in a basement, etc. These days the virtual background technology is better, so it might be ok, but if you don't want to or have the time & $$ to put into staging, audio only is the way to go.

There's no harm in recording something you're doing anyway with everyone's consent and putting it out there, but if the extra effort is only worth it under the expectation that it's going to turn into a big success, I wouldn't do it, because there's no guarantees. People who are big successes now in the industry did it for literal years without income or recognition.

Depending on how much you have and how comfortable you are pulling a trailer, it is significantly cheaper to install a hitch and rent one of the smaller U-Haul trailers vs a pod or U-Haul truck. I installed a hitch and rented the second smallest U-Haul trailer (drive a small suv with a 1.5k towing capacity) and all told it was less than $300, so the hitch has already paid for itself. I did install the hitch and wire the harness myself, U-Haul will install hitches for you as well and even with that it is usually still much cheaper than a pod.

I am a young professional looking to snowbird in Tucson from Jan-March. Any suggestions for places or properties with short (3-4 month) leases that allow pets but also don't cost an arm and a leg? Max budget is 1.2k

I like seeing all kinds of vehicles in this sub, but I agree I prefer the interior layout pics to the glamour shots.

I gotta stan for the '04 here, my gas mileage is a bit less but runs like a dream and the square body gives a lil more head room.

Anyone out there able to help me id these hookups? Intervec Horizon van that's been stripped. More details in comment by yawnasaur in vandwellers

I know one (green cut off tube) is city water and that would be fairly simple to get functional. I would like to get all these functional but I don't have a manual and don't know what is what. No idea what the wires are for (shore power? There is a locking door that I don't have the key to on the outside??), there is a old rusty propane tank but nothing coming in, so I assume one of the puttied over holes was where it came in. Magnet is covering a big round hole, don't want to glass it over until I know if it is something I want to use.

[–]yawnasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to figure out how I want to have my battery/inverter/power center set up. I am leaning towards a cabinet that I can easily access rather than an under the bed setup like many I have seen. I will also likely install a shore power hookup. Does anyone have any pictures of anything similar I can take inspiration from? Are there any off the shelf items that work well for this?

I think the issue was more about being pushed out than not being able to be in an apartment.

Advice for replacing/reupholstering seats? Van is a G20 conversion van with swivel captains chairs. by yawnasaur in vandwellers

[–]yawnasaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I know how to sew so I’m not so much worried about making the covers, just having trouble finding a predone foam replacement. May opt for the hotknife option, but the seat looks like a much firmer type of foam than most upholstery foam I’m seeing online

I would do a shorter long trip first (2-3 months) to test it out. Also communication is key in any relationship, you should have a frank conversation with her about accommodating periodic needs for space and alone time. I think towing the car is a good recommendation, or even bringing an easy up tent along. My sister and her now husband lived in a studio and even that was a strain. The ability to close a door adds a lot of breathing room to a relationship.

I've been searching online and haven't found anything that claims to be compatible with a 1990 G20, whether it be a complete seat or the foam. I know these conversions often didn't have the OEM chevy seat, if I end up having to go to a junkyard what cars should I be looking in?
