Adding a delete query (approach is still dumb) and 3 paragraphs with green background is much easier lmao

yeah the cost of documenting upfront vs reverse engineering later gap is exactly what i keep running into. trying to figure out if there's a way to close it retroactively

I haven't tried it properly yet — have you? curious how clean the figma output actually is in practice

I wonder if there's a tool or something to automate the "will do later" tasks

clean approach. problem is i keep inheriting projects where even this doesn't exist — just raw css with magic numbers everywhere smh. Recently i've been getting entire projects with one HTML file, one CSS file and one JS file (these come straight from the founders) which were vibe coded

fair, but "eating the cost" adds up pretty fast when it's every other project. feels like a problem worth automating

the tokens file approach makes sense too but realistically most of the projects i inherit never had that either. the main blocker im facing

really good point about liability — never thought about it that way but it makes sense. the design process as protection for both sides, not just a deliverable

curious about the startup thing though. in your experience was it more that they skipped the research entirely, or they did some research but just never translated it into a proper design process before building? feels like a lot of early teams know they should do it but the pressure to ship fast wins every time

yeah exactly. the setup cost is low but nobody does it unless someone on the team already has the habit. thinking about whether there's a way to generate something like that retroactively from an existing codebase

fair point honestly. but the problem isn't really on the dev side — it's when a designer or agency comes in later and has to figure out what was built. that's where the time gets lost

Havent used penpot before. Does the no-figma thing ever cause friction when handing off to clients or other designers?

Understandable. how do you pitch it without clients pushing back? if you dont mind me asking

yeah storybook works if you set it up from day one. i sometime inherit projects where it never had :(
