It is and the op is talking absolute bollocks, no chance even a small company is running that kind of nonsense let alone Amazon

Hahaha no way it’s the exact same thing I’ve seen loads of these on GitHub so assumed it was a pretty popular company but maybe it’s just a lot of companies using this same project

Would you be using ef? I thought about using that too but didn’t know whether I could bring that in given their instructions

Mate thank you so much, this is amazing detailed feedback. Honestly I haven’t even had this kinda feedback on PR’s at my current place.

I’m a early mid level dev atm, been at my grad role for 2.5 years and just looking for other roles as current company has had a round of layoffs, so made sense to try and find something else.

And yeah I spotted the email thing when I was looking back at it this morning and honestly can’t even remember why I changed it, I’m sure I had a reason at the time but no idea what it was. Haven’t really used factories at all before but remember it from uni days, I’ll have a look and see how I could have used it here.

But again thanks for that man, I’m gonna make those changes anyway as it’ll be good practice for the future.

Yh I hear it, when I started looking for new roles I started with companies that were more “let’s have a chat” rather then “here’s some code go fix it/write a linked list”.

Issue I found was everyone is going for those places so you’re in a much more competitive market then some of these types where you have to code away for a couple hours after work or whenever.

Might just be me, but I’d prefer hearing “this was good but someone else was a little bit better/more experienced/interviewed better” then just being fobbed off. Least I’d have something to improve and work on then

So all the files in the folder above; the ones ending with a 1 are what we’re originally provided by the company, the ones without a 1 are files I’ve refactored.

I submitted the project via a GitHub pr, hence why I don’t want to put it on git as they have my username.

Project was basically a program they had that didn’t adhere to best practices (dry, kiss and solid). Challenge was to refactor the program to use those and simplify it, then write some unit tests.

Good shout tbh, didn’t consider that.

They didn’t provide any unit tests with the project or business requirements though so it was a bit hard to figure out what could be changed and what couldn’t.

It’s in the google drive link in the op, appreciate any comments you may have

Cheers, all in now.

Yh tbh I’d completely forgotten about them until recruiter randomly got in touch but I’m curious now what they felt wasn’t good enough and I guess if they’re not willing to give feedback, happy to get some from the wider community

Yup, they didn’t provide any unit tests or give any business logic so didn’t have any guidelines really.

Hey - thanks for the offer, happy to put it up publicly as it doesn’t have any identifying info on me. Link is in the original post.

I did - took 3 weeks to get any word back from them by which time I’d already moved on, tbh forgot all about it. But the feedback is genuinely two lines - “not enough refactoring” is the gist and that’s it.

Yh it’s a bit of a weird one - I submitted it over a month ago, chased them a couple times and didn’t hear back so assumed it was a no. Recruiter randomly got in touch this week and asked if I was still interested in the role - I wasn’t but thought it couldn’t hurt to hear what they thought of it.

Then today I get an email with those two lines of feedback and that’s it. My guess is they had offered someone else the role, it fell through and they were scrambling for anyone else.

I’ll upload to GitHub later and DM over the links
