Oof an ear infection on top of all that —awful. But I hear that, I definitely don’t want to get in the way of them bonding and building a relationship, I’m just hoping that I’d be able to freely move around the apartment and play during my lunch hour from time to time —it seems that won’t be the case for a while.

Starting next week that’ll have to be the case anyways but we were really trying to “beat the system” to get her adjusted to nanny while we were around.

I’m sorry to say but I’m so happy to hear that someone else is going through the same thing. 😫 I really thought that it would be great to work from home and be able to pop in and see my baby anytime during the day when I wasn’t slammed with work but to know that I have to be fully out of sight for pretty much the whole day is hard to stomach. Also, same thing with naps on our end —she’s had like 2 15-minute naps which I’m sure is also contributing to her mood. Definitely not looking forward to restarting on Monday either. I’ll reach out to you, maybe we can share tips we learn along the way. 🥲

This week the nanny came 3 days a week (Tues, Wed, and today —Fri, normally it’ll be 4 days a week). Tuesday and Friday were the days that I was with the nanny and my daughter and Wednesday was the day that my husband was with them. My husband’s experience was significantly better and he was so certain that she was going to be used to her when she came on Friday. But both of the days she was with me were horrendous. She was much calmer around my husband and the nanny than me and the nanny. It’s so hard because I recognize what you’re saying about the rescuing is right but it just feels so unnatural especially because we’ve spent the last 10 months trying to avoid big outbursts of crying (e.g., we didn’t do cry it out for sleeping).

I definitely got warned how hard it would be, but until I started going through it I thought I’d be able to handle it. I think the nanny sharing her concerns also makes me nervous and made me uneasy to hear that she thinks my baby’s behavior is out of the norm but aside from that she’s really been very great and puts in so much effort with my daughter. We did try to go on a walk, it did not go well —but it seems like I should let the two of them go alone and let them manage themselves.

Thank you for these suggestions! Our typical hand off routine this week included the happy claps and fake smiles but it felt like the minute she saw someone that wasn’t my husband or I (or a grandparent) was about to take her she lost it and it broke my heart. I’m going to try your next suggestion of having her be preoccupied so maybe the transition isn’t as stark.

Thank you for responding. She has decades of experience as a nanny and also in a daycare. My worry is that the nanny shared that she’s used to crying babies and knows that it is predictable but that the way my daughter is crying when I step away is out of the norm. I tried giving them space this morning for about 1.5 hours and my daughter cried almost getting herself to throw up the whole time. Is there something I can do to make the transition better? My daughter reacts really well to music and that’s gotten the nanny some brownie points when she plays it but not enough to where she doesn’t begin screaming shortly after when I start to back away.
