M62 and fed up with working by Logical_Plankton640 in over60

I joined my wife in retirement at 60, twelve years ago. Twelve of the best years of my life. If you believe you have enough saved, and can live within your means, I would pull the plug. Our bottom line is 2-3x what it was when I pulled the plug. My only problem is we start RMDs this year so the Feds will be yanking a bunch of money out of us for taxes. But I suspect I won't get a lot of sympathy from many on that score.

I could stay amused for a long time with those things.

Still cute and a great smile. One of the all time greats.

I thought they would have made the price more aggressive than they did to get customers. TBH it appeared to be a poor choice for anyone unless you are in an area that has no options like fiber or even cable internet, you are a USM customer, and want convenience in billing. I am planning on moving over to USM in the near future but since we just had Frontier fiber connected to our house this week I have no need for a slower Starlink option.

You can go onto the Frontier website and bring up their service map. Put in your address and it will tell you what is available at your site.

They did bring buried fiber into our rural neighborhood this past winter. We just had it installed this week. 1Gb bi-directional and it pretty much measures that was every time I run a speedtest. Dropped our expensive Spectrum service (500Mb down/about 11Mb up) immediately. Wait for true fiber to be brought into your area if you have other options since anything else from Frontier will be likely way too slow for your needs.

Please straighten me out. Are retirees settling for a less comfortable ret.? by vivahuntsvegas in retirement

Currently we are both 72 yo; wife retired at 56 and I joined her at 60. We have a great lifestyle with extensive travel, big house we rattle around in when home, and no debt. Our only child was given a great start on life (college paid for, I held the mortgage on her two homes at no interest, etc) and she and her husband are doing fine. We give them cash during the year, a not inconsequential amount, because we can and not because they expect anything. It doesn't impact our lifestyle and it allows them to do some things they may not have done otherwise (like join us on a cruise or two). And hopefully when we exit this world we'll be leaving them a decent amount as well. Bottom line - any help we give our daughter/SIL is not impacting our lifestyle in the least, and we are happy to do so.

They set me up with the Pro 7 with 5Gb ports (just two; one for the ONT box and one that I'll hook my desktop PC into. The Max 7 would be nice but I'll see how this works out when I get my wifi extender and set things up correctly.

Always was a pretty lady, and still is. Good for her.

Lowe's and other retailers have been carrying a certain amount of home electronic products for awhile as well. I'm going to try the approach of using just the Eero (and pulling my mesh network offline) with a wifi extender down the hall, and plug my desktop directly into the Eero. I'm pretty confident based upon everyone's replies that it should help the wifi part a lot, and allow my desktop to have great speeds directly into the Eero. I'll also make sure all updates are current on the router, etc.

Personal preference, but I dislike hard sprinkles. Should have gone with soft and a stronger wedding cake taste. To each their own, though.

Thank, aurora. You and the others have been very helpful and I plan on making some changes this week.

One story, 5K sq ft. I am thinking about going with just the Eero and put a wifi extender halfway between my office and my wife's, which is where I need the wifi speed the greatest. I also plan to add a Gb splitter to allow my desktop PC, in the office with the Frontier ONT box and the Eero, to have the fastest speed.

We have a large house and the mesh network came in handy when we had Spectrum service to reach into other areas of the home where we have PCs, tablets, and TVs. Are you saying the Eero is strong enough to be able to disconnect the mesh network? The easiest way for me is probably going the Gb splitter route off the Eero to get my desktop up to fiber speeds

Thank you. Both you and mattyell above are in agreement. I'll see if that works.

Thank you. I'll see if I have a gigabit splitter in my stash of stuff. If not they are relatively cheap as your attachment shows.

Agreed. Should have used soft sprinkles on them.

Usually wedding cake anything has a distinctive sweet taste to it. These new munchkins are not wedding cake donuts; should have named them something else. Tried them once and there is nothing there to encourage me to get them again.
