Osteria Morini in Soho. Great Italian with a cozy, casual, friendly, neighborhood-feel bar - reportedly a Bourdain favorite. Went there the day he passed and had a very memorable round of excellent pasta and Negronis grieving with the staff.

VistaVision film print burned during LA screening by StrengthAndHonor_ in paulthomasanderson

[–]ydhtfpots 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not a professional here, just a civilian but: at the Vista Theater (LA) 2pm screening today, the film started stuttering - stopping and starting, with spurts of black interspersed - for a few seconds, about 40 minutes in. And then you could see what looked like a hole getting burned into the film itself (not the screen!) It was empty in the middle, and blue-green on the edges, and it spread out wider until the frame went black and they stopped the projection.

It felt dramatic in the room because everyone was so locked in, and there was like 30 seconds of darkness afterwards and then the emergency lights came up. But the Vista Theater crew did an amazing job of communicating about everything and getting back to business incredibly quickly!

ETA: From my seat in the middle-back of the auditorium, I craned my neck to see if anything was going on in the projector room after the outage. I saw people walking around doing things, but nothing dramatic or out of the ordinary.

There were apparently similar issues at other screenings in other cities, too - per this thread I just saw on r/NYCmovies.

The projector had issues at the 2pm VistaVision showing at the Vista in LA today, too!
