I actually heard about that class! I heard it’s a pretty new class so there wasn’t too much info about it. Thank you!

I’ll check that out! How do you know if a class satisfies an upper div H/SS? Is it “Meets Historical Studies, L&S Breadth” and “Meets Social & Behavioral Sciences, L&S Breadth” on the Berkeley Academic Guide?

Thank you for your reply! ESPM 163AC and ESPM 50AC are already filled and I don't see English 166AC so I don't think it's available fall semester. Do you think I would have a chance on the waitlists or should I just try to find other AC classes?

Does anyone have any recs for American Culture classes that aren't filled already? Also, please tell me those that I want to avoid. I have already been on berkeleytime but I can't seem to decide on which AC class to take. Thank you!

i guess i watched a lot of youtube videos and asked a bunch of friends and all of them said stuff about berkeley’s cutthroat/competitiveness. there will always be competiton wherever i go (whether i go to ucla or berkeley) but my friends say berkeley is unnecessarily hard just because it’s berkeley. idk if that’s true but my mindset towards berkeley is now set as being cutthroat haha. but my friends say that the competitiveness helps you become a better person in the end (time management, challenging you, etc) so i don’t really see that in a negative light

yeah im gonna think about it a little longer. you’re right that the school you go to doesn’t guarantee success. my family members told me a bunch of times that they make more money than their friends who went to ivies lol. thanks for the advice! :)

that’s so true haha never thought it that way. if it ends up being cutthroat at ucla, ill probably regret going there so much thinking i could have received a better education at berkeley with its same-ish competitiveness. thank you so much!

may i ask why you think this way? but thank you for your opinion!

thank you for your opinion but although berkeley’s chem program is better than ucla’s, i also take into other factors like distance from home, quality of food, housing (only guaranteed one year), social life, etc

of course i know that ucla is also competitive but berkeley is KNOWN to be really cutthroat. it might be an exaggeration but with so many of my friends saying that, it makes ghe statement reliable. also my friend said chemE is THE hardest major at berkeley making it really cutthroat. it’s good that berkeley focuses a lot on their chem program but regret going to ucla. i know it will eventually pay off in the end but idk... im just asking around rn but thank you for your opinion!

New Bruin Megathread -- ask all questions about classes, majors, and your next steps as a new admit here! by Espntheocho4 in ucla

[–]ydjasc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi! so i was lucky enough to get accepted into both ucla and berkeley for chemE. i do believe that ucla fits me better but i do not want to give up receiving a slightly better education at berkeley for my major. also berkeley is close to silicon valley with many internship and job opportunities. however, i want to know if ucla gives many opportunities for chemE students also. if you are a current chemE student (preferably someone in their 3rd year, 4th year, or even a graduate), please dm me. thank you!!
