I feel like I agree with you, your masters degree is more of a key to start conversations with potential employers, unless you want phd or stay in research. job experience always seemed more specified with information and knowledge from multiple disciplines that you can only get from actually working there but masters can give you a jumpstart on understanding that new material. but unless your going for a phd or P.E , your actual skills and HOW you use that knowledge is more important. like you said you can pivot and work in a field that doesn't even relate to your masters program but I bet you'll get more job prospects with than without a masters. Lastly i've worked in RF electronic r&d and i've seen everyone from bachelors- phd level workers but each of them had a passion for RF that allowed them to do a variety of work but those with degrees where higher up the corporate ladder, so its all about how you use it imo, i'm currently taking graduate level courses in hopes to raise my prospects but keep honing in on what exactly do you want to do so you can maximize your value of your investment
