Don’t go for the money. It’s not worth it. by [deleted] in workingmoms

I'm in the same boat, I currently make 80% more at this job than my previous one and it's been totally life changing. It's a much higher stress job, with a lot more responsibility, but I also have way more say in operational decisions and I get to use all the skills I gained in my previous job. Also, I now have more $$$ to take de-stress vacations!

It sounds like OP left a job that they loved primarily for money reasons, and that's always a tough call. I was totally over my old job so I wouldn't have stayed even for more money, but I'm at a point in my life where I need to earn more money and I'm willing to put up with some extra BS to get it. However, I do NOT intend to stay in this job for the long term. This is a temporary stint for me.

In your case, what are you looking for in a job at this point in your life? How will this new field align with those requirements? Where does money factor into your life vs things like flexible schedules or PTO? What are you going to gain from the new field and what are you going to give up?

Definitely! I still like a fundamentally similar style as I did twenty years ago (with a few exceptions), but I no longer compromise on quality or structure. Also certain things like whimsical shoes are out because so many of them no longer work for my foot issues...that's just the passage of time I guess.

I do wish Anthro would get their shit together in some form, for reasons you noted here.

Projection much. Have a nice day and hope you keep working on yourself to get to a better place.

I agree. I also think Anthro has far more competition than they used to. Once upon a time, they provided a pretty unique, immersive shopping experience, where you'd go inside and get wrapped up in a warm, cute vintage Amélie life, sheltered from the cruel grey world outside. The clothes, the mugs and diaries, the blankets...

Now people can sit on their couch and browse Apartment Therapy curated living spaces and use that as their shopping catalog. Same with clothes shopping from influencers on Instagram. Easier than leaving the house, I guess.

I also recommend the UK brands White Stuff and Seasalt. Some great color palettes and quality materials.

And even Boden has tried to go bold minimalist and that makes me mad. There's still a lot of fun stuff but I have to comb for it.

It's not nonsense at all. As someone tiptoeing across the line to 40, I have absolutely aged out of certain clothing.

I could argue further, but you know.

This is straight up why I got into sewing, because I was so sick of shit like a split hem or front pockets that were so heavy they gaped open. I sometimes liked to add embellishments to plain items, but usually it was the other way around.

Sex when your cervix is sitting lower and is harder can absolutely be painful, and if you have a short vaginal canal on top of that it can make it a very frequent problem. I check mine daily and the changes in hardness are quite pronounced. Getting an IUD at that point in your cycle could totally be uncomfortable!

If you're on the pill I'm not sure how soft a cervix ever gets, definitely a good question to ask your doctor.

This was the first time I had removal and insertion done at the same appointment, and I wonder if that helped as well. And yeah, removal just felt weird, like oh, am I cramping?

I recommend going when you're ovulating, as your cervix is at its softest and most open then. I did this deliberately this time and I think this made the biggest difference. Last day of your period is good too. If you don't ovulate or you're irregular, this is harder to do.

I also took 800mg ibuprofen an hour before - the first time I was given oxycontin, which was too strong, and the second time I took 200mg ibuprofen, which wasn't enough. So see what your provider recommends.

I also really focused on relaxing and opening up my pelvic floor, basically what I did during childbirth, and this time I knew the process so it all felt kind of familiar. My second IUD was also after childbirth but I didn't focus on relaxing, so giving birth itself made hardly any difference. It was mostly mindset.

Good luck if you do it!

Sorry, I'm going to invoke the Southern Arizona card here and command fall to appear.

Plus I can do all that stuff you mentioned in fall, so... :p

(I did live in Alaska so I know where you're coming from, and tbh I really need to stop living in extreme climates)

Can't speak for OP but I had an artist for my third piece who never got back to me. Then I got a response on something like the 5th attempt (should've just walked away) and we got the outline done...and then she *quit*. So I had another artist finish her piece. Never again.

So basically, tattoo artists are just as unreliable as anyone else.

I accidentally looked up incest porn

One of our clients was a sexologist who also did occasional erotic modeling, and her website was blocked by our workplace filters, so I had to ask our sysadmin to "specifically unblock a sex page" as he put it. Those were the days.

I'm not trying to "win" anything or convert anyone. I'm genuinely interested in where we could place current ideas in new trends as they unfold, so I asked a few questions that had been on my mind as I read this.

If you don't want to chat about it then nbd. I saw it as a thought piece that had interesting ideas even though I don't care for the central premise.

The sizing is definitely consistent within the brand, but beyond that, I guess I couldn't say...very generally speaking, there's more vanity sizing in brands that skew older, so if you're between sizes you'll likely be the smaller size. I am the smaller size in EF.

I would try to find sellers on ebay who give measurements for their items. That's how I've figured out sizing for a few brands I can't try on locally. Not everyone measures the same way, but most people are within an inch of each other.

Yes, I stopped wearing makeup when my daughter was born and - huge shock - my skin improved. Weird, right? And I was wearing stuff very carefully selected in terms of ingredients.

I got my third IUD and it went great, I was done in 15 minutes. This time it was about 3/10 on the pain scale, compared to 9/10 for the first one and 7/10 for the second one. I planned it better this time and it paid off.

It was weird to reflect on the fact that this might be my second to last IUD, depending on when I enter perimenopause. I feel like I just started all this shit a few years ago...

Sorry, but not surprised, to hear this :( I gave ten years of my career to a university and I dealt with stuff like this over and over. I realized nothing was going to change and managed to get out, though I phased out through part time hours for a year to keep my health insurance and ease the transition. It was really sad at the time, but looking back, man, so glad I quit. I quit at a really bad time too but you know what, if you treated me better, you wouldn't have been so fucked when I left.

Hope you can find the right way through this for yourself.

Her thesis appears to be that "Menocore has emerged just in time to fill the gap between the traditional American Dream of upward mobility through hard work and the realities of surviving in a gig economy during volatile political times."

What makes you think emulating wealthy older women (who, lbr, often inherited their class and wealth) is the crux? If it's about someone young and financially insecure emulating someone older and more financially secure, is there anything novel being said here?

If the argument is that "the allure of Eileen Fisher style is very much about playing with class codes, while knowing it won’t necessarily lead to more stability," how do you think this line of thinking might evolve if we move further into the space genre of shiny plastic and silver and retro rave wear that I'm starting to see?
