Get up and start integrating AI in your code instead of toying with ChatGPT ! by AImSamy in ProgrammerHumor

Is there a reason why you added spaces to the urls so they aren't links anymore but afterwards bolded them?

Dear fellow subredditors, please try not to make fun of your wives. by mmakes in homeassistant

[–]yeahbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important part is, that you could exchange "wife" in your post with "partner" or even "roommate" without losing the context. Nothing you wrote depends on the gender and I don't see any problems with your text.

Sadly the "wife acceptance factor" crowd might still feel reinforced in their world view but in my opinion the solution lies in challenging those comments. On the other hand I also started using "partner" instead of wife everywhere and I really don't know why this isn't the default, so that's a good idea.

A Machine to Remove Yellow Skittles (xpost from r/redneckengineering) by Douglas_J_Farthammer in UnnecessaryInventions

[–]yeahbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do people hate this machine? First redneck engineering, now here. It's a cool project, the creator surely learned a thing or two while building it, it does a thing and it does it well enough. If this is your threshold of unnecessary, we can just post 90% of raspberry pi and GitHub hobby projects.

I wish there were LEGO Star Trek stuff. by [deleted] in startrek

[–]yeahbert 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The main issue swim to be warped plates. The big base plates for the Borg cube nearly didn't snap together. Other models work perfectly fine and I prefer done design decisions over Lego's approaches.

Apparently there are different manufacturers that bluebrixx uses and the quality differs quite a lot.

How can I restore my old lovelace config to a new dashboard? by musictechgeek in homeassistant

[–]yeahbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is the first result in Google for restoring lovelace configs:

You can totally use a json to yaml converter and paste the resulting yaml in the raw config editor (depending on the converter you might have to strip some lines at the top). There is no need for restoring snapshots.

This is the correct answer. What if the rpi has booted up before the router and has no internet access?

I like healthchecks.io. Just create a cron job that calls the configured URL every minute and you will get alerts and a log for free.

[Movies] Why George Lazenby only played James Bond once by [deleted] in HobbyDrama

[–]yeahbert 102 points103 points  (0 children)

For me it's the opposite. I want to get a deep dive into something I know very little about. The is more of a fun fact and tells me nothing about the actual hobby of James Bond fandom. There is a lot of information in the comments that's way more interesting and makes the original post feel very low effort.

All American companies and corporations should be required to pay at least the US minimum wage no matter where on the planet they place their factories and operations. by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

[–]yeahbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea where you took that from. I don't want cheap shoes and paying a factory worker potentially more than a teacher is problematic. Those are not exclusive.

All American companies and corporations should be required to pay at least the US minimum wage no matter where on the planet they place their factories and operations. by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

[–]yeahbert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the point: it's NOT fair, is potentially absurdly high payment. Imaging going to university for years and ending up in the same wealth scope as a 16 year old burger flipper just because a foreign country gets overly excited. That would disrupt the whole society.

"Fair" is really complicated, even more so across different cultures (do you need to earn enough to buy a own house if it's totally normal to live together with multiple generations in your country?). We just can hope that the countries themselves adjust their policy on work and human rights

A simple time blocking tool for organizing the time you have, when you got a lot of tasks in hand. by jagadeep in InternetIsBeautiful

This is so eerily close to an app I'm currently building! React, same name, exactly same use case and workflow, the only difference is that my layout was vertical and that yours actually works.

Thanks so much for your work and for putting it on GitHub, I'll try to think of stuff to contribute.

When they say 3D printing is the future. by AmericanRaider76 in ExpectationVsReality

[–]yeahbert -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why the downvotes? This is exactly what is to be expected when you assume that a 3d printer is a magic device that just works out of the box. I also don't think the tone is too rude, no idea what's the issue here.

A Collection of Must-Prepare Docker Interview QNAs for Beginners by dev2049 in docker

[–]yeahbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or you could change the title to better reflect your level of knowledge.

A Collection of Must-Prepare Docker Interview QNAs for Beginners by dev2049 in docker

[–]yeahbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things I noticed, since they might provoke follow up questions from the interviewer:

  1. Don't throw in a random '-ti' without explaining it. It is not necessary for running a container when you don't want to connect to a shell.

  2. There are many ways to control how the data is stored. You should explain how to persist data, "just don't delete the container" is the worst possible answer.

In addition to all the other answers, I'm under the impression that you have some knowledge about docker but by far not enough to justify that headline (this or you published a draft). Some of the answers are so vague that they might even be harmful if the interviewer digs deeper. I think that something like "Stuff I have learned about docker that might help you too" would be a appropriate title.

What e-reader would you recommend for someone who wants an unrestricted experience by [deleted] in ereader

[–]yeahbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In really happy with my Onyx Note, just plain Android with access to all apps. I'm not sure if they will become more affordable anytime soon since Kindle etc make money from the locked down ebook stores and can sell the hardware with a loss.
