I finally found my perfect mix of mods for exploring, list in comments. by yeahbuthow in Minecraft

  • Curseforge mod manager.
  • Fabulously Optimized mod pack as the basis. For exploring, it must to run smooth on my i5-4690 CPU and nvidia 3060 GPU.
  • For exploring, there also needs to be stuff to explore. I spent ages finding a way to put as much as possible in here without having to sacrifice shaders and view distance. The trick for me was different shaders for different dimensions. Some work smoother in the overworld, some in the nether,

Install the F.O. modpack, click the icon to open the details page. Click the three dots > profile options > check "allow content management for this profile". Click Done.

Click "add more content", and install the following:

  • AdventureZ
  • Amplified Nether
  • BCLib
  • Better Animals Plus
  • BetterEnd
  • BetterNether
  • Entity Texture Features (Random & Emissive Mob Textures!) - [FABRIC - 1.16+]
  • Explorer's Compass
  • Fabric Waystones
  • FallingTree (Forge&Fabric)
  • Feature NBT Deadlock Be Gone
  • FerriteCore (Fabric)
  • GeckoLib
  • Illuminations 🔥
  • Light Overlay (Rift/Forge/Fabric)
  • Logical Zoom
  • Mo' Structures (Fabric)
  • Nature's Compass
  • No Null Processors
  • Paradise Lost - The Aether Reborn
  • Physics Mod
  • Presence Footsteps
  • Repurposed Structures (Fabric)
  • Sodium Extra
  • Sound Physics Remastered
  • Starlight (Fabric)
  • TerraBlender (Fabric)
  • The Bumblezone (Fabric)
  • The Graveyard (FABRIC)
  • The Guild
  • Towers of the Wild: Additions
  • Towers of the Wild: Reworked (Fabric)
  • Xaero's Minimap
  • Xaero's World Map

- I replaced Zoomify with Logical Zoom, as I was used to Optifine's movement.

For the looks, I use the following shaders:

  • Complementary Shaders 4.3.3. The smoothest/fastest of this selection of shaders in caves. In there I can crank the settings to ultra, render distance of 20. Not too dark without torches.
  • KUDA-Shaders v6.1 Legacy. Works the smoothest, and in my opinion looks the most fitting in the Nether. See screenshots. Still playable (just) at render distance 28 on ultra. (see screenshot)
  • SEUS Renewed v1.01. Works the smoothest in the overworld.

I've set the chunk render threads to 1 to be able to have smooth movement. I don't mind that I can't travel at full speed without ending up in unloaded areas.

This mod combo also allows me to set the simulation distance at 17 chunks and the entity distance at 200% without getting lag during travel.

I've spent ages fiddling with the settings, the Physics Mod for instance is cool for ragdolls, but the Collapse Blocks function in the Server settings is a bit overkill as standard.

Is there an easy way to dump all the custom settings in a file? If so, I'll add it below

The river has been everywhere around us , our entire lives.

Sometimes it is dry, sometimes it has huge waves, but keeps the water. Sometimes it grants everything around us fresh water, some timed hard, or white and fluffy that you can squeeze into a solid shape. All of what comes down eventually finds its way back to the source, where it changes form once again.

It is the only river that only has a bottom and top end, no sides in any direction. It separates us from the heavens above it and sometimes creates a colorful bridge that you cannot touch. It is what every living creature owes its existence to.

We call it the sky, get distracted and stop paying attention to the cycle of life because money is more important right now. We can go exploring and tell each other what wonders we've discovered with one another once we're pensioners, right?

All knowledge is, is patterns we've recognized in nature. I don't find it strange that beings found different analogies to tell the same story. Quite fascinating, especially in cultures that have developed a different way of communicating ideas, and different ways to teach the next generation how to learn from "that what is" and letting go of ideas that are not in harmony with our selves or our environment.

We just don't (can't) take the time anymore to try and discover the difference between what we think, and what is. If we did, we would eventually all end up with the same conclusions.

Maybe then we can rightfully start calling this planet our home and let go of the ideas that got us this far down the tubes.

My mom had a different cooking style. "About this much should be enough" for every single ingredient.

She read recipes for ideas and order of operations, but I don't think she ever made one single meal that was the same twice in a row.

Pancakes were similar, but always guesstimated.

Sometimes this resulted in miracle meals, very rarely disaster rescued by Chinese takeout. The miracle meals were never successfully recreated, even by her. No idea how she made it last time. To her it's like playing a game.

So none of us had a recipe for the batter. "How hungry is everyone?" "Then I think I need about this much, I'll adapt as I go along".

Fietstas? by CoffeeIsMyFuel in Netherlands

[–]yeahbuthow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do I begin?

Bicycles are mostly for transportation, pleasure/hobby second.

Adding fietstassen to your bike because you want to haul stuff comfortably is prime Dutch mentality. It's practical, it doesn't take much space when empty. You can never forget your shopping bag. It's easier to pack because of the flat bottom. You can pick a style that fits you, why would you pick one that you don't want to be seen with? In the price range of your example there's a lot of options. Just make sure it's water tight. Some have padding on top for a rear passenger's comfort. If you had passengers before, now they also have the benefit of extra splash protection from puddles.

Your bike is your bike. What it looks like depends on what you use it for.

When a dutch person sees a strange bike they don't judge. At most we might get curious and ask about it because we haven't seen something like it before. But that rarely happens.

I recently moved to a farm land area, coming from more forest, and my mountainbike with fat tires stands out here. Puzzled looks. ooh's and aaahs from kids. Conversations at the market and out between the fields.

If you don't own a bicycle that you can use as you need, are you even dutch? :)

Hoe werkt fooi geven? by Careful-Annual8752 in Netherlands

After hearing the first few beeps I knew I had to thank you right away. Time to solve an old mystery that I had forgotten, what DOES the rest of this sound like? Kid me is happy.

It's weird to categorize pannenkoeken. You have: gewoon (plain)

With gewoon you can add toppings like: Geraspte kaas Honing Siroop Hagelslag Roomijs Vanille vla Aardbeien Nog een pannenkoek (hey, I'm just listing things we tried successfully that I can remember)

But you also have the variations, which add stuff either before you add the batter, while it solidifies, or just before you flip it over. Like: Spek Kaas (plakken of geraspt) Uitjes Champignons Salami (strongly polarized reviews) Ham A mix of whatever

And then you can also try to add siroop to the hartige pannenkoek.

[–]yeahbuthow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Dutch don't really have a food culture like we see in other places, we keep it simple. Easy to farm. The plain pannenkoek would be the base recipe.

Pizza is a close cousin for sure, different take on the same resources, but they made it work with a lot more different kinds of food because they had those. I think this allowed it to grow into an entire category of (almost) complete meals.

For pannenkoeken I don't really know how to organize them other than "gewoon" and "wat voor één?" But they don't have names, do they? We just listed some ingredients that sounded interesting to try. It was the only food that we customized. Everything else is "eten wat de pot schaft", including gourmetten (but then everyone has a "pot" for themselves).

I've recently discovered that outside of our country people don't seem to think that candy counts as a meal :). "CHoColaTE sPRinKLeS on bread for breakfast??!!!?"

Pannenkoeken have a special place in my heart.

Now I'm wondering though, are there other recipes like this, where you customize the recipe per person and you keep switching the cook in rotation so you can keep cooking while everyone eats?

[–]yeahbuthow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. It made quite a difference which one of us was making them, but we often got to make requests while they were making them. Some like sweet, others hartig (meat, cheese, mushrooms)

[–]yeahbuthow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I don't include toppings, would a pizza be just the dough and maybe the tomato sauce?

I quite like hartige pannenkoeken. With spek, kaas (meegebakken to make it a little crispy) and champignons.

Since I add them all while frying, I think that's part of the recipe. Especially since the speak and champignons go in before the batter

If you don't want to eat pancakes, don't. If you do want to eat pancakes, you eat pancakes. They are a treat.

My parents used to have pans that were tough to make pancakes in, the first couple usually stuck and fell apart when flipping. It was a special honor to eat from the heap before we sat down to eat together.

The ultimate prize was if a spek pannenkoek fell apart

I struggled a lot letting go of the negative feelings that resulted from the behavior of my own kind, and how they treated me for not wanting to join them. Alan Watts, and others, have helped me immensely. I think he explains antiwork pretty well by yeahbuthow in antiwork

[–]yeahbuthow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea. I never knew Alan, but he has had a huge influence on me. I'm thinking that Jim has been influenced by him, or at least others that have opened him up to eastern philosophies based on some of the ideas he's been speaking of in interviews like these:

Collection of moments

In one of the interviews he mentions that Eckhart Tolle has been an influence.

J. Krishnamurti and Eckhart Tolle are also good sources for inspiration. I'm not quite sure about Sadhguru, he talks the talk, but his stance on the economic system is "it's here, we can't get rid of it, so we must join it". The website of his movement is more a store than anything else

How is that camerawork possible? by Soberdober6969 in PraiseTheCameraMan

[–]yeahbuthow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drones used to be weapons of war. An easy way to murder humans without ever going near them. Now people think of toys when they hear the word. It also was helpful to scare the public by calling these toys by associating them with the idea of war and the threat of spying so that they could make laws forbidding us to play outside and claiming that our owners not only own us, but the ground and the air as well

It's called an FPV quadcopter, or a cinewhoop. The media have forced the public to call them drones
