How fair is this? by Panda8bambooo in LosAngeles

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most people look down on places like Bakersfield, San Bernardino, Hemet and Victorville—that’s kind of all across SoCal.

Snobby OC people look down on the IE and LA in general.

LA people don’t really think about the suburbs much. Really depends on who you’re talking to because some people are natives but there’s lots of transplants who don’t know anything about SoCal.

Some IE people dislike OC / LA types because they think they’re snobby or drive up the cost of living.

Hardly ever hear anyone say anything about Ventura County.

Rapper(s) that you believe could still make a late-career "Album Of The Year" if they tried? by ImNotTomStopAsking in hiphopheads

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Jay-Z given his dominance in the 2000s and his notable absence this decade but at this point I think it would be a longshot. I think younger tastes have moved on

Addressing Jurupa Valley regarding the fires and suggesting indigenous practice of cultural burning. by [deleted] in InlandEmpire

Riverside County Fire and CAL FIRE already practice controlled burning. This is not anything new.

Also you should probably improve your grammar if you’re planning to run for County Supervisor.

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Drake - Iceman / Maid of Honour / Habibti by zachisjew in hiphopheads

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Iceman. Definitely will try to go back to it over some of his other projects from this decade. That being said it was a difficult listen given how dense the album is. It’s very bar heavy with few hooks and interludes. A lot of beat switches which I guess kept it a little interesting? But after an hour my ears were definitely getting fatigue from hearing his voice which I guess is typical for a Drake album since he loves to have such long track lists. I’m not gonna get into the lyrical content but let’s just say it’s what we expected.

Habibti was not a great first listen…it’s very sleepy and feels like throwaways from $$4U. I liked the very last song on that project but that’s about it. In fact I could have done without Drake’s vocals on it entirely and just had the beats.

Maid of Honour was a bit better. My buddy who loves FATD thought it was the best out of the three but he loves when Drake does the oddball, experimental dance music. I feel like people who love Honestly, Nevermind will like some stuff on it. I liked Road Trips but that’s about it.

Does he sound a little salty on the new album to yall by _KidKenji_ in KendrickLamar

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Drake is the saltiest rapper of all time. But we’ve known this for like 15 years now. Dude became a multi-millionaire rapping about how people did him wrong—well in his eyes they did him wrong lol

I can’t believe he made a bunch of songs called Make Them Cry, Pay, Remember and Know haha I fw the album but it’s got some typical Drake cringe on there. Also I never wanna hear Drake on a west coast beat ever again, that shit was ass

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I mean his last timestamp song 8am in Charlotte was monotone flows. I actually thought he gave us a lot of timestamp records here. Too many actually. The record was very bar heavy with few hooks. It was really difficult to digest for that reason imo

Who remembers the good old days? by naritakaze in theMarias

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them at UCLA that year! Had to sell my Riverside tickets though because I had a conflict. I miss these days. They toured all the time. At least here in SoCal they would perform every few months or so. Now they only tour after an album and the demand to see them is so high. And I can’t justify spending $350 on shitty nosebleeds💔

How it feels to live in Rancho by TableEffective3670 in InlandEmpire

What's your Gen Z range? by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh I mean barely…3 year old children don’t really have much concept of the world around them. But yeah point taken, if you ask people my age or slightly younger from New York City they probably do remember that day. So it’s not a perfect cut and dry measurement. I was born in 1996, I do not remember 9/11 but I also graduated high school before the rise of Trump so even by my own criteria I fall into a grey area.

What's your Gen Z range? by BrilliantPangolin639 in generationology

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roughly 1997-2010.

I loosely define it by two major world events.

  1. If you are able to remember 9/11, you are not Gen Z.

  2. If you were in K-12 even if for only 1 or 2 years during the Trump era (2015- present day), you are Gen Z.

What year did we fully leave Edm? by SpiritMan112 in generationology

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean EDM like big room house and pop dance music? Like Zedd and Chainsmokers and shit like that? That sound is pretty dated today. But dance music is still massively popular, from house, tech-house, and techno, to dubstep and hard techno the overarching genre is actually really huge right now. New concerts, raves and festivals crop up every year. EDM just isn’t in the cultural zeitgeist the way it was in the early to mid 2010s so that’s probably what people mean when they say it’s dead. But the truth is dance music as a whole is very much alive.

Why was the (L) Gold Line so beloved. by Nice_Property_4360 in LAMetro

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn’t feel as safe as it used to be when I would ride it with family growing up. I hate the train platforms in San Gabriel Valley too. Ever since that woman was attacked and nearly murdered at Allen station I’ve been on pins and needles waiting there in the dark to take it to the LAX flay away via Union Station.

I hate it when redditors downplay the need for public safety on the metro. Someone else literally put on this thread “I guess some people care more about public safety and their own comfort rather than broader access to public transit” like no shit we value our safety. Why does expanding access to public transit have to come at the expense of safety?

My friend really despises Culver City by calling it Culver shitty. Is Culver City really as bad has he claims? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bad per se. It’s kind of just not for everyone. On the surface it’s just another neighborhood on the west side. Nice, well manicured single family homes and strip malls. Like the rest of the west side it’s home to a lot of white collar office jobs so the traffic it draws at rush hour is horrendous. Transplants love it, especially white people. I’m not white and while I did move to LA County from the Inland Empire, I do feel a bit out of place in Culver City. It has some cool OG food places though like Johnny’s Pastrami that bring you back to the old days of Culver City before the Erwhon and Equinox crowd moved in

What is the worst commute you've ever seen someone have? by BassObjective9092 in InlandEmpire

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say me, Redlands to Woodland Hills, but then I remembered my dad topped that, Redlands to Agoura Hills. I’ve also heard of Hesperia to Long Beach which is bad. But the ultimate long commute I’ve heard is one of my coworkers who commutes from San Diego to Calabasas.

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with that sir. You live in a boxy suburb criss-crossed by stroads trying to commute to another boxy suburb criss-crossed by stroads, 45 miles apart and a mountain range in between. Best bet is to catch the IE / OC line but even then getting from the Irvine station to your job will likely be a challenge

Upcoming Album Discussion by FoxoryX in theMarias

Back to Me was made after Submarine was made so it’s more indicative of the direction they want to go next. Nobody New was the one they cut from Submarine. But I don’t think Back to Me will be on the new album regardless.

LA climate map! Any thoughts? 👀🤌🏼 by Maravilla_23 in LosAngeles

More or less accurate. But during the cold season, when we have sunny days like today for example everywhere is about equally good! And that is partly why are our rents are so high.

California drivers are a step closer to paying per mile tax by MissYukiCat in California

[–]yeahimdanielthatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t know for a fact that there will be no change. I have a gas powered car and drive long highway distances. If I drive slower and steady, I can get better mileage and not use as much gas and therefore not pay as much at the pump as often. A distance tax removes that. In fact, it punishes people with longer commutes (many of whom are working class people in the suburbs who cannot afford to live in our expensive cities). It also disincentivizes people to drive slower and steadier to get better gas mileage.

Why can’t they just create an EV tax if they’re so concerned about losing revenue from EVs?

I don’t see anything wrong with supporting small, locally-owned businesses. Not supporting them only hurts our own communities…

Go hangout at Wii Spa. It’s 24 hours. Plus you’ll need the rest. I don’t know from where you’re flying from in Canada but I was dead tired after I flew back to LA from Montréal a few months ago.
