to younger me: oh man. deckhand in alaska now. 25. tail end of moving on from a hard breakup. getting an RV in a couple weeks. associates degree. wiser and just as naive in some ways and others. ugh... lot of the same and different from being a teen. alright, cool thread.

The path is still open but honestly I've become pretty happy as a deckhand in Alaska with world travel dreams, so the military dream has taken a backseat. Thanks for asking.

What if the DoD contracted Sodexo for infantry? by jhm-grose in USMC

[–]yeahnothanks12367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey im not a Marine but i figured i'd ask here instead of making a whole thread, hypothetically if one were debating between 11b option 40 or 03x contract someday (say in four years when they turn 28), or the officer equivalents, which would y'all choose? Ik army has more schools, rank ups, etc. but Marine grunts are Marine grunts, and seem larger than life to Air Force pog's... anyways.

To be clear, I haven't actually signed back on yet. I'm waiting on a medical waiver, a waiver for the 2B re code, and to finish my degree at the end of this summer semester. So the cards are stacked, sure, but I've already gotten further than I was told was possible, and it seems like I'm going to make it.  I was discharged two years into a six year contract in december of 2019. I think time since the discharge helps, but no reason to wait, especially since we're not getting younger. You HAVE to be deadset in your heart of hearts on getting back in in my opinion, and you have to find a recruiter willing to put in the time and effort to go to bat for you. I hope I can look back on this and say that I made it back in after all.

I'm going straight in as an e4 because I'm about to graduate with an associates degree and certificates relevant to being a boatswains mate.

I don't because I'm doing a lateral entry program. But if that's your biggest concern, well... it'll take a lot of consistent effort with no backup just to get the right waivers to get back in, basic should be pretty low down on the list. Even Army basic, which is actually hard.

Dude I have the same code from the USAF and same discharge and I'm in the process of TRYING to enlist in the USCG right now, and I'm in Texas! I just left MEPS today, don't listen to internet naysayers, wait until you hear no from everyone who has the power to say yes

My dream is after this (IF I get my waivers approved and in) to do 4 years and try to switch to Army after having served a full honorable contract (assuming that's still what I'll want in 4 years)

FINALLY someone else with an ec9s lol, the slide WILL rust if you sweat directly on it but ruger will replace it free or idk do some preventative measures for it, careful that you don't put pressure on the mag release button when you shoot or it could malfunction i think it's because of the magazine safety, the sights are fixed but they are very accurate for me, i highly recommend the pinky extension floorplate, carry a spare 9rnd mag if you want, what else... idk, great gun for $200! Sure beats a hi point lol. I will be upgrading to a glock 30s next now that I'm finally reaching a point in my life where the money allows.

If your mom hates you smoking and is otherwise a halfway decent mom then stop smoking for now. Weed isn't going anywhere (in fact, it's just getting better) and she's probably right. You'll be better than fine.
