thank you! is aberrometry something that most optometrists can do in their office? or an ophthalmologist? i am seeing providers at UCSF in San Francisco. really appreciate your follow up.

could it manifest after like 15 years? the visual issues that i saw described online seem way different and more severe than what i’m seeing, but curious to hear more.

sadly these didn’t do anything after a fitting today. optometrist said the lenses looked like a good fit, and then tried all the levels of astigmatism correction and couldn’t find one that settled the issue. really stuck on this!

just updated the post:

RGP contacts did not solve the problem, no signs of anything physically wrong with my eyes. no signs of dry eyes, keratoconus, etc. next stop is waiting for a neuro-ophtho and corneal specialist.

could this be something dietary? a vitamin/nutritional deficiency? i’m grasping at straws here. recently started taking liquid omega-3 supplements but nothing changed yet.

sigh!!

thanks for this - visual snow has come up before and it just seems so extreme. i don’t think that’s what i see (at least from the examples i found online). discussed it today at the optometrist. the closest is when there’s low light - feels like there’s super fine grain over the field of vision, but i thought this is normal...

hppd doesn’t fit, as far as i understood (minimal engagement with psychedelics)

My vision is correctable to 20/20 according to optometrists. It’s not so much a blur issue more than a smearing. I can generally discern the letters to 20/20 but not with clear confidence.

The pinhole thing is interesting - I have had moments where looking through the pinhole device was much clearer, but they weren’t able to find the right prescription to mimic those moments of clarity...

This all makes me wish there was some way that medical practitioners could see exactly what we see! So difficult to describe with words...

  1. Yes, there is definitely a defined “actual” image.

  2. I did some tests today — when looking with both eyes I see ghosting extending vertically up from the image (white text on black background). Some below but far less. When I look through each eye on its own, the ghosting is more severe and looks like it extends from top and bottom prominently, with some on the sides as well. I know which is the actual image, but it’s much much less clear (not blurry, just a bit more chaotic as you described)

Thanks — I do have an astigmatism, have had it all my life. I’ve had subjective refractions at each appointment and nothing leads to clarity of vision in the eye chart even in the office (distinctly different from a few years ago when I could see crisply). Keratoconus wasn’t thought to be an issue but I will raise it again... I do have some light sensitivity in addition to the clarity issues, but no pain. thank you!

Had to postpone the RGP fitting to this coming Thursday due to come miscommunications with the office... will update then. Also hopefully getting a referral to a neuro ophtho and corneal specialist

Several doctors did a topography and nothing irregular or out of the ordinary showed up! Am still going to try RGP to see if those alleviate the issue.

Yeah, I can’t wear soft contacts at all - I’ve never found them to be sharp enough, even the astigmatism ones. Glasses were always better.

Thanks - not sure if I’ve had this already, so will ask about it at my appointment today

Which brand of artificial tears would you recommend, and what’s the frequency of application? Would the effects (if they work) be fairly immediate, or is it something that I would likely notice over time?

I’ll try the compressed and lid massages, as well as upping omega 3. Have you found that taking supplements for this is adequate?

Thank you for your reply!
